Last night's Ka encounter test

My girl and I went to catch a movie last night...as we were leaving the theater I connected my 8500 x50 up and started slowly moving towards the parking lot...I immediately noticed a 1 bar chirp of Ka band...knowing I didn't see Ka band from the doors or anything on the way in I said "hmmm Ka band here, where is THAT coming from" ...then I saw straight ahead probably about 200 ft 2 city LEO's sitting "69 style" in the parking lot talking to each other ....uhhhh.....well I drove right past them they were both perpendicular to the front of my vehicle, but even driving right past gave me like 1 bar signal. Is this normal??? I am pretty sure they were running CO because how else would I have gotten the constant 1 bar signal?

They might've had their radar gun like on a seat or otherwise obstructed.

Do they use hand held units or Patrol Window Mounted units in your
area?

Jdong is correct..... If they were using Hand helds and left
it laying in the pasenger seat your detector would have
only given one bar or two.

I'm not really sure. Maybe they use both, because I was testing the other night...you see I know of this one city (Sterling Hts, MI) , and the most popular way to get to the police station involves going down a 2 lane road with 35MPH PSL, you are almost guaranteed to pass an LEO coming at you straight on at some point , so I thought it would be a good test...that night I got a Ka warning from about a mile was an LEO driving straight towards me as I had expected. So, in that case I would suspect it was a mounted gun.
