Default Tru-Lock Feature on the 9500i.....?????

Ok this is Day #2 for me and my newly purchased 9500i. I have been using the Tru-Lock feature and from all accounts it has been working very very well. I live in a college town of about 30,000 and have mutiple gas stations and convenience stores with X band sliding doors. My first impression after being able to Lock these out was WOW!! I couldnt belive how quiet my in town driving became. I was using my 8500 x50 before I got the 9500 and its like night and day as far as being able to filter out none radar signals.

Having said all that I noticed something tonight while driving and would welcome all comments on this.

There is a Clinic that I drive past that has sliding doors that emit an x band signal. I know have drove past it enough times that I know this to be a fact. This clinic has a highway that runs past it to the North and South. Monday night I was traveling Southbound, I encountered the signal and Locked it out with Tru-Lock....fine no problem. Well tonight I'm driving Northbound past the same clinic and I got the sliding door x band signal. I thought that once it was Locked out it was Locked out but I see now, apparently, that the Lockout feature must have a radius limit, which meant that even though I locked it out on the southbound part of the highway, the lockout area didnt reach the northbound side of the highway.
I may be wrong. Any thoughts on this...............???

    Hi FastRN,

To most effectively use the TrueLock feature, you should lock out false radar sources only as you pass really close to them. That way, your 9500i's GPS coordinates for the location of the false radar source will be nicely centered around the false radar source. It is also a very good idea to make sure that no police radar is being operated within the general area of a false radar source(s) before you lock out the false radar sources.

Its late, but tomorrow I will post Escort's patent for their GPS based radar detector technology. The patent also describes their theory about how TrueLock works.

    Best Regards,

    --Michael

don't use true lock. just trust me on this I have plenty of videos that will be out soon but it's dangerous. and it CAN get you a ticket.

Lock out sources with frequencies 24.125 and below using your tech mode. A mode with do most of the other filtering.

    Absolutely.

There is a radius limit, and True lock doesn’t lock out the whole band so if there is a fluctuation in the band from one 30MHz to another you may get the alert again (small chance).
Also keep in mind true lock will lock out other signals for a bit after you lock out a location.

"thestaton" speeding can get you a ticket too...

When I had my 9500i I had to TrueLock an X band traffic changer going South and then TrueLock it again going North.

I was as close to the emitter as possible both times. To get any closer I'd have to drive my car over the curb up to the pole the emitter was on. So there are some limitations on how realistically close one can get.

If there is a fluctuation in the band from one 30MHz block to another you may get the alert again in the same area. (More confirmation of 30MHz blocks)

This sounds like the case for the above and most likely yours.

    Heyy Guys,

Thanks for all the great information regarding the Tru-Lock feature. I love the concept and I think that Escort is on to something here but with this encounter, maybe there are a few bugs that need to be worked out.
I'm not sure if at this point what I will do. I may have to take that spot out of True-Lock because even though I get that sliding door false alarm there, that is also a known spot for State LEOs to sit. The usually sit in the median and can tag either the cars in the Southbound lane or the Northbound Lane. I dont want to Lock that spot out and it NOT be able to notify me of LEOs in the area. I understand that , that is one of the BIG questions with the Tru-Lock feature. When you use it, will you inadvertingly Lock out a radar source. I'll keep my eye on this and let you guys know what I find. Thanks for all the info........

If it’s also a known spot for Leo’s to sit you may want to wait to confirm what Radar they use.
    If it’s KA, lock away.
If it’s K, be smart in locking it out.
If it's X lock it out... unless they also use X radar than do not lock the spot out, there is a small chance you may lock out the Leo. Normally you can just lock out x because it’s very rarely used any more.

    Yeah Crazy 9500I Guy

Definantly in light of this new experience, I'm going to be a bit more selective in my Lock-Outs

BTW That sliding door uses X band.

Also, Im happy to also report that so far I'm not having any problems with the 9500 and my Sirius Radio....both are working just fine. That was a concern considering that my Sirius antennae is on my dash a few inches away from where my 9500 is mounted on the windshield.
