Default Ecort Passport 8500 x50 service required help???

I purchased an escort passport 8500x50 and it after two weeks keeps telling me "service required". I can't believe after 2 weeks a $300+ detector is telling me this. What happens after the 1 year warranty wears off? I will be stuck with a 300 dollar POS. Any one else have these problems and have any advice who i should talk to at escort. Thanks

It def sounds like escort and bel are having issues with their detectors going into self cal mode. The is the 2nd x50 that I have ever heard of going into self cal, but the bel's I hear that every week

The only thing you can do is send it in, maybe negotiate another one year warrenty from when you sent it in.

As I said in a couple other posts mine made it 14 months. Then I had to pay $60 for repair and shipping. I was not happy and did not expect after 1 year for this to happen. Sounds like I am not alone with these concerns. I never had an 8500, but nearly every other Escort since the original and I have never had trouble. Disappointing. I just sold mine on ebay and I am purchasing a V1 for 2 reasons. I think I will like the arrows and after a year if I don't like it I can sell it on ebay and get almost all my money back. 30 days to try it isn't always enough. Good luck with your x50, I read where one guy on this site is on his fourth x50 in about a year. His problem might have been with his car's electrical and not the detector. If it continues with another unit you may want to think about that.

I believe these problems might be with overheating. I havent seen a piece of electronics yet that like heat. Yet we put these in our windshields directly in the sunlight. Sometimes we leave it there day after day in a very hot car. I would expect this may be the cause of some detectors having problems, but not really sure. Just a guess. I try to keep mine out of the sun by mounting it high and out of the sunlight and take it down when my car is parked outside for long periods. Hopefully this will keep me from having the same problems as others have had. Only time will tell.

Yeah I had TWO RX65s go into self cal, finally the 3rd one worked.

For the X50... first one worked, and so have over 80 odd other units. All without error.

I dont know what it is... different Quality Control or what, but I though Escort and Bel units come off the same production line?! Why are the Bels failing so much more often than the Escorts?

    Default Self Cal Mode

I just recently purchased my X50 red. I am very happy with it but recently it did enter self cal mode when i switched vehicles. For approximately one minute the system chirped and displayed self cal. I was afraid i had damaged it in the transfer. After that minute it worked just fine and I have actually observed a far lower incidence of POP falses. I don't think it has anything to do with the selfcalibration but it is odd none the less. The radar detection is still faithful. I was baffled by the self-calibration thing. I would really like to know more about what triggers it and why.

Man I have heard of many people having this same issue with there X50,s. I wonder if this will ever happen to me?.

If this happens again try to power off the unit and then power it back on again. It might just be some sort of a software issue.

Also you should check the rev # if its a rev 3 that is the reason why.

nope it is a rev 5. nothing bad ever came of the self cal and it hasnt happened again... It never said "service required" like the other owners are complaining about. So I have to say, no problems here, i love the dang thing. I just hope it doesnt do it again and say "service needed" heh.
