    Default Got busted today

Hello everybody, I thought I'd post my latest run-in with the law!

I got busted by a cop today. He clocked me doing 37 in a 25 zone. I got absolutely no warning from my detector until he nailed me, which is when the full blast of K10 hit me. Does that mean he was using POP? I was the only vehicle on the road so I guess there were no reflections to warn me.

I'm still curious though, is there anything I should have done? I have a Bel Rx65 and it's always in autoscan.

    Questions:
    1. I think the autoscan always reverts to highway, since I get x band alerts even at 20MPH. I've programmed city to no X. How is it supposed to work?

    2. I get pretty heavy falsing on X. Should I turn it off altogether? I'm in california.

    3. Should I turn on POP alerts?

The cop was right behind me and I had no chance to hide the detector. Luckily he was pretty cool about the whole thing and let me away with a warning.

Any other tips that people might be willing to share with me? Do you always drive with one foot on the brake? I think it took me about a second to respond to the alert. It was just so loud (K10!), i was stunned!

You were hit with instant on, not POP. Since you were the only car on the road, the cop had no occasion to trigger the radar until you came along. No detector can protect you from that sort of attack. It's best not to speed excessively when you don't have a "blocker" (other cars) in front of you, so to speak.

If you set City No X, you have to switch to city mode to turn off X.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Only vehicle on the road + Cop waiting using instant on = Dead Meat.....

No RD can save you from this scenario

I thought autoscan automatically toggles you between the city and highway mode. (based on, say, your speed?)

I use AutoScan in the city with my 985, but on the Highway or in Rural areas I use Highway Mode.
I want to most sensitivy possible.

This was do to instant on radar and if you where the only person on the road and no buddy eles was in front of you or behide you then it does not matter what detector you are using. Remember NEVER speed when your the only car on the road.

One more thing. I leave my detector on highway mode all the time and I think everyone should do this. That might be the reason why if the cop was shuting other cars why your detector never reported it.

In my experience the best thing to do with the RX65 is leave it in highway mode all the time and use the multiple threat display. On routes that you drive you will quickly learn where the falses are and what strength they go to. If a cop is around there will be a different pattern of location and signal strength to let you know something else is out there. I avoid using autoscan like the plague. I hate to say it but the "smart filtering" software may have weeded out a brief low intensity blip of instant on radar. If you had gotten this warning you may have slowed down and avoided a ticket. Even in the city I still use highway mode and just ignore X band unless it really becomes very strong. I wish there was an option to mute X band until a certain signal strength but still display it as an alert. I have detected K band over a hill this way that I am very unsure if autoscan or a city mode would have picked up.

As far as being dead immediately when hit with instant on radar, I have some serious doubts about this as I should have had at least 5 or 6 tickets from instant on radar. Each time I immediately slammed the heck out of the brakes. A couple of times it was night time with my cruise control set between 15 and 20 mph over the limit. My foot was slightly resting just over the brake pedal allowing me to brake very hard and fast. A couple of times the cops attempted to clocked me one or two additional times. To my surprise each time the officer never came after me. I do not know whether they had older radar guns which have trouble locking if you really brake extremely hard. Some of these encounters were from 1/4 a mile away so my relatively low profile car may have helped. Who knows but maybe I just have been getting lucky and cops have been letting me go, but I seriously doubt this happened every single time. Slamming the brakes is a dead give away to the cop that you have a detector if they are looking directly at you instead of their radar gun. You can also be rear-ended if someone is tail gating you so use your judgment on whether to do it or not.

Whether to cut POP off is a toss-up decision. I leave it on because quick triggers of 33.8ghz Ka band can misinterpreted as POP. POP on the Bel unit is also a good RDD. It can be handy to know if someone else has a detector especially if you plan to use them as a rabbit.
