Default X50 self cal, then Service Required.

Well, I plugged in the X50 to my car the other day while the car was already running, and it went thru the slow start up for some reason like this, laser,ka and then Self Cal. It would stay in Self Cal mode for quite sometime. Then go thru the power up mode, laser,ka, and then Self Cal. After a few times of this happening, I reset the unit but didn't do a thing for it to finally come out of Self Cal mode. I unplugged in and plugged it back in a few more times, and then finally Service Required came up on the display and it won't come off. Since most on here know how much great luck I have had w/ my "killer" X50 revision 5, I will be sending it in for repair . Alpinestars was the lucky one who got over 4 miles of detection w/ this X50 against C/O k band and got over 3 miles of it on video while driving in the snow  . I hope Escort will come thru for me and fix my X50 "CORRECTLY" and not change the revision # 5 that I have. Question is, will I still have the same k band detection on this unit as I once had before?

Before you send it in, try tightening up all of its horn-to-board screws. Loosen each one and then tighten each one in order to break through any oxidation on the screw threads or in the horn threads. That might do the trick, but I am not too hopeful since the startup sequence was really weird.

You could ask Escort specifically not to upgrade the firmware. As for its detection abilities once it comes back, that really depends on what the problem is and what they have to do to fix it.

    Default should

Since I had to send my X50 back in a 2nd time, the technician (Chad) actually called me to go over what needed to be done w/ my X50. He adjusted x,k,and ka bands since they were way out of wack after already sending it in once before. Let's hope once I get it back, it works great. Wish me luck guys.

I spoke to a escort tech (Steve) the other day and he was very informative
about how the M4 and S7 platform units differ from each other.

He stated that M4 platform has less off axis sensitivity to prevent
falsing. Something about the horn being angled slightly down
this give it more tunnel vision if you will.

    Thought you may be interested........

That's interesting Orbital, makes sense too. My m4 995 is far quieter than my s7 940. When the 995 alerts, you better be reacting.

Did the tech have anything further in regards to the differences between the two?
