    Default 9500i question

when my mom rides around with me in my car she cant stand the constant false alerts from my v1....the thing is tho she is a speeder and got picked off at 85 in a 65, and has gotten at least 2 tickets in the last 3 years...would a 9500i be the most quiet/and best thing for her?

I would say an X50 would be your best bet. Its very quiet and
a lot cheaper. Now if you want to spend the extra cash and
have time to sit down and teach her all the tecnical stuff like
how to lock out signals and all, the 9500i is a good choice.

My recommendation is the X50 red.

I'm sure she'll resist stating that it will just annoy her but
once she see's how quiet the X50 is, she'll be very pleased.

well moms do love shopping areas, and a 9500i in A mode would be ideal.

X2 and keep in mind that it is a less sensitivity RD that is why it is less chatty

*sigh* This is the biggest point. She honestly sounds like a Cobra user who thinks if the detector isn't beeping Ka for 30 seconds , there isn't a cop, and only after you see the cop car do you start considering slowing down.

She should really just take some time to understand the detector and interpret the alerts, rather than trying to get a detector that suppresses them. The V1 seems to "false" primarily to legit radar sources, in which case is a *good* thing, as not alerting to them would mean if a cop was sitting there, you'd be in trouble.

Also, for chatty radars, arrows are really important, so you know WHERE to look for a potential false source or threat.

Multiple threat alerts are important too for the speeder who doesn't like chatty radars, and IMO Belscort's multiple-threat indicator is really hard to read compared to the bogey counter and bogey lock tone.

From what I can tell, women seem to hate the noises a RD makes. The quieter, the better. Good luck teaching her how to use it.

I've noticed the same thing. The truth of the matter is right now we really don't have the technology that allows a detector to only alert to police threats and not to other legit radar sources on the same band. I mean, 9500i's a good start, but flawed in that (1) You have to set lockouts yourself (2) K-band is narrow enough that it's easy for a lockout to unintentionally reject a real radar gun in the same area.

Bottom line I think she should just be trained to use the V1 properly instead of buying a new fancy toy that probably won't do any better.

I think men are more tolerant to tuning out irritating noises because we have to be around women so much...
