Default Has this ever happened to anybody???

ive had my 9500i in my mothers car for about a week now. I live in michigan so its been about 10* lately and i keep the 9500i in the car. anywho....I had it on and it was working fine, I stopped at a gas station, when i was done, I turn the key to start the car. The 9500i flickers on and off 3 VERY FAST times. it turned itself back on. then says "Powering down. Please unplug" I just power cycled it and it has worked fine. just curious if anybody has ever heard it say that before?

That's probably the initial voltage dip caused by the car starting (it's not surprising colder temps cause the voltage-drop for cranking to be lower than normal). This likely causes voltage to dip below the acceptable runtime voltage and hence the software initialization in RAM is corrupt and causes the weird behavior you are seeing. It would be easily resolved with a software reset, and if it happens often you might want to consider starting the car with the detector unplugged. I personally wouldn't worry over it

X2, Starts in colder temps can cause initial voltage dip in vehicles. It may also be the 9500I was I bit to cold and went into a safety mode so you needed to reset.

I do have to say its pretty cool the 9500I told you "Powering down. Please unplug" jut to be sure everything is ok.

Very impressive communication ability of the 9500I. 8)

If it happens again call Escort.

I have had other RD's that acted funny when started up really cold, but it never affected performance.

On a separate but somewhat related note, it wouldn't hurt to do a load-test of that battery to see what kind of condition it's in (unless of course it was recently replaced) -- a marginal health battery that works well in the summer can easily fail to start the car in the winter, and I'd hate to have anyone find that out the hard way....
