Default Killer save or lucky save? You decide!

    Hello,

I had a somewhat good "save" today from the 9500i. Or was I lucky?

Heading west on I-70 this afternoon in OK conditions. Good enough to cruise at higher speeds. I was driving an Escalade and a dark green or gray Ford Excursion had been tailing my a** hard for some time so I pulled over and he passed gracefully. About 4 miles down, I noticed he had a V1 mounted high and I hope he noticed I had my RD. I was using my Escort 9500i in Auto mode and traveling 95+ to pass him so my RD was at full sensitivity. He reduced his speed considerably down to 65 but I was still soaring past him at 95. I didn't think much of him slowing down. The next thing is the Escort is at full ramp up blaring KA. I ease of the accelerator and brake very smootley back down to 65. A state patrol was just sitting on the hard shoulder with his window down looking in his mirror. As the Ford is catching up to me I see him smiling from my side mirror, and as he rolls up I roll down my window and he laughs and gives his V1 a pat! I would of given him thumbs up or something but I exited at the next exit.

So, did the state patrol hit me with instant on or constant on? Did my 9500i alert me in time for me to break hard enough to slow down, making it a killer save? Did I break early enough for him to not get my reading? Or, did I slow down enough, early enough, for him to not get a reading but pick up someone else's speed?

I was alerted within 700 feet of the officer.

I wonder if the driver of the Excursion w/ he V1 is a member here!?

By hard shoulder. Do you mean the right shoulder or the left shoulder or the median? Outbraking Ka is almost impossible if not completely impossible in such a large vehicle. I would guess he might have been just setting up and turning the unit on get a couple of hits on. One of my LEO buddies will shoot a car when he first sets up to make sure what he's seeing is what he's shooting from his mirrors. Sometimes they're speeding but without being "set" he won't pull them over. Clearly the technology had you make an adjustment you would not have otherwise made when you saw an officer, so it should go down as a save.

I the future I would stick to the Ferrari for going 95.

The above defiantly makes it a killer save.

By the way great RD choice...

CJR238: The quote, "Not true a V1 is the most sensitive on paper but in the real world you are only talking about a second to two difference if that and none on others," is exactly what happened today. The Ford owner had one or two seconds of advance warning with his V1 and he proudly knew it after smiling and giving his V1 praise. Although, in this instance it could of cost me a ticket :-/

I was in the slow lane passing (not a good idea) and the officer was on the right hard shoulder. And yes, in general I will stick to speeding in one of my less discreet cars!

Would Highway mode make any difference in earlier detection next time or would "auto" mode be at full sensitivity anyway?

you missed an option in the poll. "just plain luck"

maybe the police saw the escalade and figured if he pulled you over, you'd pull out a gun and shoot him, and just figured it'd be safer to let you go by.

You can afford and actually own all that stuff in your claim list there and you couldn't afford to buy a user name that didn't have to have numbers in it?

You didn't get a ticket, so why isn't there an option for just "You 1" "Fundraisers 0"
