This is my first detector, I'm a newb, be gentle......
I took my new 9500i out to the only "This is your speed" sign in our town to have the fun of watching it go off and check windshield mounting locations.
The sign is about 200 yards down from the crest of a steep hill, as soon as I started down the hill the 9500 went off with a couple bars and "K band" voice alert. It then smoothly ramped up to max bars and a steady tone as I went by the sign. All well.
I turned around and went up the hill to see how far past the sign the 9500 would detect the signal from the rear. No signal at all. Not so much as a single chirp or bar.
Hmm. I thought that maybe the sign only operated with oncoming traffic so I pulled off the road below the sign, waited for oncoming cars, went up hill, no signal. In my RVM I could see the sign flashing the oncoming cars speeds. The sign was definitely emitting behind me.
Hmm. Mounting position? I had it mounted via the suction cups up high between the headliner and RVM. Blocked view to the rear? I took the detector off the mount, held it in my hand at shoulder level with the clearest possible view to the rear and drove up the hill again. Nothing.
Normal performance? I know the 9500 doesn't have a rear horn but I was expecting SOME kind of detection of the speed sign from the rear.
