    Default 9500i after update. No change.

    I sent my Escort 9500i in for the ramp up fix and got it back and as far as I can tell there is no change. I ran in to some Ka band coming from the opposite direction and it did the typical 1-2-10-10-10-10 ramp up. So I guess that it was a total waste of time and shipping cost to have this thing updated. It is still good for city use (quiet) but I think I am going to stick with my old Bel RX65 for Highway use. I may try a 9500i Blue in the future and see if it is any better.

    If it was moving radar this seems to be one of the advantages of the ramp up fix (active monitoring), stationary is where you will see slow ramp up like the x50.

    And you are happy with your RX65's ramp up? My RX's ramp up is worse than my 9500i.

    you are right and i hate it as well. perhaps this is the new way of looking at low-powered fast moving closing ka band radar but i sometimes feel like the 9500i is simply slow to alert of the threat and is just playing catch-up.

    give me the long range and put me back into the 1-1-2-2-2-3-3-3-3-4-4-5-6-7-8-8-9-10-10-10-10-10 like my v1 and i'm happy again. with gps lockout, i'll trade for the better sensitivity.

    p.s. sometimes i wonder how true this is. i have approached stationary k-band false alerts and it does the same thing.

    Since I started locking out locations I have had the RD in Highway mode. I think Auto is part of the reason it ramps funky. First it alerts then thinks it's a false then decides this could be an alert and barks at you. So I may keep it Highway for good.

    I also think the autovolume is a good idea but I think your brain trains itself to be more keen to the RD with back ground noise. So when volume jumps up because of background you think it's a high threat when it's not.
    So I shut that off too.

    Your brain can only learn the RD's behavior when it acts predictable.

    Since then it feels like it ramps better. Not great but better.

    Yeah, Escort really boosted the low end ramp-up. To me it seems to be overly boosted and is overly sensitive to slight changes to the actual strength of very weak to weak radar signals. I would prefer a ramp-up for the weak to mid range signal strengths which is half way in between the old ramp-up and the new ramp-up.

    Just sent my STi in for the ramp up fix and have been using my V1 again. Not doubt about it, V1 has the perfect ramp up across all bands.

    what does it cost to send in the 9500i to have the software/firmware updated? is it the same price regardless of in or out of warranty?

    Free in warranty for sure, and probably could convince Escort to do it out of warranty.

    My update was free with shipping both ways. I just had it less than a month, though.

    I think many of you just need to get use to how the detector you are using behaves and adjust to it. Toss out all the preconceived ideas you had to begin with and reboot your brains. I read too many people saying this isn't like that model and its like reading about someone who has driven a cement truck their entire life then hop into a sports car and complain that something is wrong with their sports car because it doesn't handle like they are use to.

    The sooner you can toss out what you think things should be like based on an older detector you had been using the sooner your brain will be in tune with your new detector your now using and the two of you will then become one.

    Some of the comments I'm reading here are rather ridiculous in and amongst themselves. No offense, but please, this isn't one of the smartest things I've read...

    What could you possibly be thinking with that comment or expectation? Do you honestly in some way believe that the color of the LEDS making up the display is in anyway going to amount to a difference in detection capabilities? Now come on, lets apply a degree of common sense here and allow me to save you from your future disappointment, the display color is not going to make a bit of difference for you.

    At least your trying to think and apply common sense to your comment, though read your manual, it's clear in there that it makes ABSOLUTELY no difference for Ka, POP or Laser if you have your detector set for Auto, Highway or City. Your only fooling yourself in thinking this is making a difference in how Ka is ramping up. Read page 9 carefully in your manual under the bottom right corner of the page where it describes to you what the sensitivity (Highway/City) option actually does (or doesn't do).

    ... has you losing touch with reality. It's a 9500i GPS capable radar detector. Its not some self thinking cyborg radar terminator device from outer space. The thing does not do any "thinking". It does not in anyway "think" about maybe a signal could be a false or not. In reality Artificial Intelligence of any kind is still more a concept than an actuality in anything we currently have in use today. Your 9500i is far from being anything more than a dumb black box that picks up a RF signal and signals an alert in so doing. It does not try and decide if this is a "real" signal, or a "false" signal or anything else beyond a signal coming in at the frequencies in which it has been tuned to detect. It knows no better to an incoming signal being a true or a false than it knows if that lump of road kill you just ran over was a cat or a rabbit.
