    Default Silly question

I have one of the OLD Escort Passport radar detectors" onclick="replacer_hook(96)" target="_blank" href="http://www.radardetector.net/escortradar">passport radar detectors. The first slim model, metal case with the orange mute toggle and Green on.off switch. I don't think it even has a model #.

Will this perform with any reliability on the radar bands used today, excluding laser of course, or should I buy a new one?

    Thanks

Buy a new one. Your sensitivity to the newer Ka band will be not up to par. It may be good with K and X band.

I'm pretty sure that model does not detect Ka at all, which accounts for about 99% of my LEO radar encounters.

    Spoiler: show
Mustang GT Convertible, Bel STi-R Plus, V1 3.892 hardwired with X and K off, Laser Interceptor Quad.
9500ix confiscated by the woman and hardwired high in her car.

Default Old Junk, Ummm, I mean vintage units

I'm sure MEM-TEK will likely find your post here and love to talk to you all day long about anything you want to know about these old detectors. He collects them as a hobby and has a butt load of them in his collection.

It does seem that he indicated these older (if) Ka band units are no good at detecting the modern Ka band width. He'll certainly be able to tell you though if that applies to this particular model.

I wouldn't trade it in on Escorts program, you'll get next to nothing for it. I'd sell it to a collector, they are probably already PMing you about it as I write this.

Here's MEM-TEK's collection, do you see one like it in there?

Never know Mem Tek might want to buy it from ya, depending on the shape I would guess.

Sounds like you're talking about the original Passport. It was the benchmark in its day for both X and K band, but it doesn't detect Ka or laser, which are today's real threats.

You might even want to just send good old MEM-TEK a Private Message asking him about it, he's probably lonely right now looking at his in box thinking nobody loves him because he doesn't have any PM's in there.

    Hi Jay,

It sound like you have one of these:

This original Passport model, if in very good to MINT condition and complete with all original accessories and the box, can bring up to $50 on eBay.

As noted by others, it only detects X and K band, does not detect any Ka band frequencies and does not detect laser. Yet it is something of a collector's item if found in VG to MINT condition.

Radar detectors which I use: 9500ci and STi. Check out my Vintage Radar Detector collection. Quotes from forum members:
Jag42: "He probably owns the Broke Back Rocky Mountain Radar detector."
partsfreak: "A Cobra is about as useful as a stripper pole in a convent."
