Default USB Software Update : My Reply email from Escort Support

Hi. I was able to ask Escort Support about the USB software and this is the complete reply email they had sent me :

    Percy,

Currently the USB port is only used internally. In the future you will be able to download and save your marked locations, and download other customer's saved locations. In the far future, you will also be able to download software from us using the USB port. We have no time line on when these functions will be available, but our engineers are currently working on them. We will announce any new capabilities on our website

They didn't even take the time to write type that response out for you, it was just cut and pasted by a saved document "boiler plate" answer they send everyone.

Its interesting that they don't market the thing as having a "USB port used only internally".

Their marketing department should have designed the box to print "USB Port for PC connectivity", then in real small tiny print under that had "Used internally only".

Actually maybe that is what they are doing but the small fine print is just too small for my eyes to see. Anyone out there have better eyes than me and see some fine print there that I'm missing. I don't wear glasses but I did just turn 41 this month, maybe my eyes are going.

I had to renew my drivers license on my birthday this month and AFTER taking the eye exam the guy asked me if I wore glasses or contacts. I was like did I do that bad? Guess I missed one, but it looked like he was giving me the old man row. There were two other progressively smaller rows above the one he assigned me that I thought at least I was able to read as well.

They could have at least had the software ready for the 9500i's first birthday this month. Good thing Escort isn't married to the 9500i, she'd be kinda pissed that they forgot about their 1 year anniversary.

Clearly they do see at least that not having any software available is not a good thing for their customers or they would also print on the box "USB Port for PC connectivity, software not ready yet, no idea when it will be, but hopefully some day". Maybe they should just print that boiler plate answer they cut and pasted to send you right on the box. This would save us from having to ask them.

    queer 43,
Feel free to cut and paste my response to you here and reply back to them with it. One good cut and paste response always deserves another.

I questioned them the other day on there live chat. I didn’t copy what they said, however I got a different response.
Got the standard nice opening line, but she stated that it was not available yet and the "cable and program" when available will be announced on our website. She also stated she had no idea when it would be available.

The promising comment she said was "cable & program"

I even asked if it would be a month, 6 months or 3 years, she wouldn’t comment on anything.

After being in this game long enough, it is safe to say they will NEVER have anything for the consumers to use, thats not to say they they cant, its just that they never intended. This is the THIRD generation of detectors Escort and Bel have that have unfullfilled promises attached.

Don’t know where that came from? When did they ever not fulfill there promises?
They already have provided the USB and yes it does work, it doesn’t do anything for now.

Being obsessed with all this right now, I got to thinking, hmm, usb port on the 9500i, interface with a "remote display", possibly something more advanced... even have a google map topographical with your real time location and then the estimated distance of said threat.... now if only I took the intro and intermediate courses for machine programming and interfacing at college...

I've needed therapy for many months now -- ever since joining RD.net and developing a most serious addiction to this forum.

Original passport 8500... advertised as software/flash upgradeable for future threats... i.e. POP...

They advertised that the unit can be sent in and flashed... load of BS...

The back and forth about USB software etc is the same as when member were inquiring about getting there RD sent in and flashed... the manufacture (Bel included) deflected the requests saying there are not "flash" upgrades available at the moment... i.e. never.

Just trying to save you guys time.

I'm a bit confused, the 8500's could be sent in and get a flash. I sent my old 8500 and they flashed it? I don't recall them saying it can be specifically upgraded with POP, it wasn't even in existence yet.

Im sure they were thinking if super wide K was introduced they could flash it for the new frequency. Doesn't the V1 need a full upgrade to enable POP not just a flash?

In any case as long as the USB is there it will certainly help with the ease of updating when sending to Escort.
