Default Worried about 8500 X50 picking up radar

So i have had my X50 for 3 days. The first day that i got i worked great picked up radar from so far away and i was really happy with it. There are places around the town where i live where my old detector would false out in a few places. So when i got the X50 i went to those places and it did false out. But i picked up the doors from a lot farther away and i was stoked about that. But last night I was driving and i noticed that it wasn't picking up anything anywhere. So i went to the places where i knew it would false and it didn't. So i rest it and drove back and it picked up the doors, but i had to drive right up next to them. So i drove around and found so of the local LEO's (usually they run there radar all the time even when parked) and i got nothing passing these guys. So i went to a place where i knew they would be using radar and i was coming up the hill saw the LEO pointing the gun down the hill and the X50 picked up nothing. Then i passed one up the street a little further who had just pulled someone over and it didn't go off.
I am kinda worried that it isn't going to work when i need it to, and i am going to get pulled over again. When i was working on the first day i loved it. But i paid 350 for it.
My question is this. Is it smart enough to know the places or frequencies that the false are happing?
    Please help :?:

After reading all that which had me thinking maybe you should check to see if it was actually turned on, I get to your question and I'm not understanding at all what your asking exactly, can you clearify your question a little better?

    [b]****Clarification****

It is turned on!!! Just doesn't pick up radar where i know it should. My old 50 dollar Whistler picked up radar in more places then the X50 does. I have to be doing something wrong. I have it high on my window (not in the blue tint). I have clean my front and back window so they are clear. I am worried cause it doesn't give a false alarm at some doors where my old Whistler would. Is that cause this is a much better detector, or because i am doing something wrong. I am scared out of my mind to speed cause i think that there is something wrong and that it isn't going to work when i pass a LEO.
I am sorry if first post didn't make sense i was upset when i wrote it. I just threw down 350 bucks for this thing and i dunno if it is working or not.
    Please help me

    where did you buy it?

try turn it off and turning it on again. if not, i would suggest sending it back to escort for repair/tune up.

if you purchased from authorized dealer, you get 1 year warranty.. if not.. screwed (i may be incorrect but unlikely)

    well, good luck.

I was just joking about the turned on part, I'm sure you had it on. If your sure those door openers should or have given you a false then clearly something is wrong. Lets look at what it could be here and I'll be more serious...

Are you sure those door openers actually will cause a false, I mean absolutely positive. I've seen plenty of automatic doors that do not send out any signal your detector would be picking up. Just because they are automatic doors doesn't mean they will trigger a false.

If your sure, absolutely positive about the above I'd say something is wrong.

Its also common for many people to see a lot of police cars yet never have their detector go off. You have to remember its a radar detector, not a police detector. It will only give you an alert if the police car actually has the radar turned on. No way to tell by looking outside his vehicle while your driving by.

If your sure you seen a cop pointing his radar gun right at you like you said then clearly something is wrong.

If your sure about all this stuff I don't even see a need for you to ask, clearly something is wrong, take it back or send it in.

The only other possible thing is maybe the door openers and police in your area are all using say X band radar. Maybe X band has been turned off in your detector (or K band even, or both). Use your owners manual to learn how to go into your detector settings and check to see that these bands have not been turned off.

If your sure they haven't been then clearly something is wrong, take it back or send it in.

Factory reset probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

Late at night the door openers at many closed businesses get turned off when the alarm system is armed or when some of the doors are locked either in the closed or open position.

Also I am pretty sure that the X50 borrows Bels Autoscan feature where multiple X band signals (assumed to be coming from pairs of X band door openers) are automatically blocked until you get really close to them where the signal strength finally overrides the Autoscan filter.

Try testing your X50 during the day and in Highway mode against those various door opener locations.

Doesn't even have to be late at night, many automatic doors do not emit any signal at all, they use a pressure pad in the walk way. usually obvious by the black rubber mat thing in front of the door and absence of any visible over head sensor.

I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Hollywood. Are a lot of places out west still using those really old pressure pad sensor door openers? I haven't seen one of those in years but remember them when I was a kid. My brother and I would run ahead and then jump onto the pad, marveling at how the doors instantly opened by themselves. Others have reported that microwave door opener sensors are being replaced with video sensors, but my small town probably won't have those until the next decade.

Yea, I still see many of them, even in brand new buildings. In fact, they just put a brand new WalMart in out here that isn't even open for business yet and it has them. The company I work for doesn't sell anything (but parts) but these (both types) are one of the thousands of things the company I work for service as the factory authorized warranty service agents in the area for dam near everything. The list of stuff we work on as factory authorized service agents is rather exhausting, nothing residential is the only limit they seem to have, just commercial equipment, but anything commercial you could possibly imagine we do it.

Often get people with their minds blown wondering how we can know how to work on so much different stuff, I just let them think we are super human. In reality though, once you open up a control box everything inside is just about the same as inside anything else, I mean a Solid State Relay for example is still a Solid State Relay no matter what its being used inside of. The trick is just knowing and understanding what each individual component does and why its been put in there. There's only a few companies we deal with who actually manufacture all of their own proprietary parts, making it a real pain in my ass and that much more junk I have to haul around with me in my service van.
