I have an Escort 8500 and a Blinder M25 on my GL1800 motorcycle. The 8500 audio feeds into the motorcycle intercom via a Kennedy Cell Set Dual unit (with a Garmin 2610 on the other input).
The 8500 is mounted in the faring out of sight so I'm NOT using its Laser Detector circuitry.
I'm looking for a way to get my Blinder alerts into my intercom.
I have determined that one of the 3 Blinder Alert Outputs is a MUTE (designed to mute a typical car radio) that I believe just provides a connection to Ground.
What I'd LOVE to do is figure out how to use this MUTE output to trigger an alert in the 8500 which would then go into the intercom via the Kennedy Cell Set.
My QUESTION is - Can anyone tell me if there is a contact in the Laser part of the 8500 circuitry that I can tap into that by providing a Ground (or a simple +5V or +12V) to would trigger the 8500s Laser Audio alert.
I'm not an electronics expert but would guess that somewere in the Laser cricuit it "throws a switch" when it detects the Laser. I'd like to be able to do that from the Blinder output. I'm OK with soldering on my 8500 as I've already done it once to fix a broken audio out connection and the unit.
Any OTHER ideas would be greatly appreciated. I know it is possible to rig something up with a Blinder/Cheetah gismo but this is too expensive and complex for what I need as I want everything hard wired.
