Alrighty, try a different USB port on your computer. I assume its a desktop computer? On some motherboards, the USB ports right next to the keyboard/mouse connectors are USB 1.1 only whereas the other USB ports on the MB are USB 2.0.

If you have an add-in USB PCI card, create a restore point, power off and unplug the power cord, and then remove the USB card. Reboot and then try using one of the MB's USB ports. If this doesn't work with the 9500i, then you might try another trick if the USB card uses the same brand USB chipset as is used on the USB PCI card:

Now that the USB PCI card is removed, the only USB ports which should show up in Device Manager should be the MB's USB ports. Disable these MB USB devices. Now, power off again and unplug the power cord, reinstall the USB PCI card, and reboot. Upon reboot, also immediately go into BIOS and disable the MB's built-in USB ports. The effect is that now you know that you have disabled the MB's USB ports in Device Manager, have disabled the onboard USB ports in BIOS, and that the only drivers which are active are for the USB ports on the add-in USB PCI card. Plug your 9500i in USB mode into one of the ports on the USB PCI card and try 9500i Commander again. It should work now.

I ran into a very similar issue when trying to plug in a USB astronomical CCD camera and found that the software couldn't initialize the CCD camera. The above method resolved the problem since the MB USB ports only supported USB 1.1, but the add-in USB PCI card also used VIA USB chipsets and of course supported USB 2.0. What was happening is that the motherboard's VIA USB 1.1 chipsets were hosing up the communications to the VIA USB 2.0 chipsets on the computer's add-in USB 2.0 card.

I have an original 9500i that hasn't been updated and I'd like to try out the Commander 0.0.3 beta but I also would like to upgrade my 9500i to get the bug fixes and enhancements.

Has anyone used Commander 0.0.3 after updating their 9500i to software version 1.0 (from the bottom right on http://www.escortradar.com/)?

I appreciate any info/experiences that are provided.

Has anyone been able to decipher the .loc Truelock backup files that are created by Dectector Tools for the 9500i (and presumably 9500ix/ci)?

If the .loc file could be converted to CSV or some other common format, we could add, delete and modify records and save them back to the .loc files, then "restore" those points back to the detectors. This would allow everyone to exchange data.

The key is figuring out the loc file structure, which at first glance appears to be encrypted.

Be interested in the answer to the file format question as well...
