What would be cool would be a single button which will go through the X and K segments and automatically unlock the segments containing 10.525 X and 24.15 K and then re-write the data back into the 9500i. That way a fair number of door openers would be blocked yet then the 9500i should respond every time it detects "true" X or K band police radar. Granted, some locked out false alert locations would now generate false alerts but other locked out false alert locations would not. What do you think?
"True" X and K Band police radar can be anywhere from 10.500-10.550 and 24.050-24.250. So, I don't see any advantage for such a feature.
Have you thought about what you are to sell this to Escort for when they ask?
Escort has had over a year to work on and perfect their software, AND they have the advantage of actually knowing the specs for what each bit and byte in memory does.
So I'm sure that if and when they finally do release their software, it will be revolutionary, and my "utility" will be ignored

It would be to their benefit to work with you. The possibilities would be endless. You would create stellar software and they would benefit from their sales. Better software would equal more sales

I agree. I think USB upgradeability could well become the next "big thing" for radar detectors. Imagine -- a new laser gun model comes out, or the RD manufacturer develops better filtering algorithms -- simply flash your RD to counter the latest laser threat or to improve its performance without the RD manufacturer having to pay for shipping costs or technician labor. If Belscort combined this with a policy of introducing new RD models every two years (us fanatics always have to have the latest thing), then it would be like the camera industry a couple of decades ago. Back then, sales of the latest cameras and lens designs topped the charts yet somewhat older cameras and lenses sold well as used cameras or lenses. It was a real heyday for the camera industry, and it could be a real heyday for the RD industry too by increasing acceptance of radar detectors as a legitimate, legal and publicly accepted means of allowing motorists to simply be aware of when they are being monitored by law enforcement.

Well I gave it a try today and was only able to produce buffer overflow errors. They would always occur at 99 or 100% complete. I tried all the steps and nothing helped. I have a 2 year old laptop with vista on it, so I'm not sure it is a hardware issue. Hopefully you'll come across some program information that helps reduce the error. Of course I'll keep testing it out every now and then, but other than that I guess I'm waiting for version 0.0.3.
Although I didn't get it to work, I want to thank you for your effort into finally utilizing the USB function. I'm very excited for the future additions & improvements. As a broke college student when I come across some extra money (maybe in the couch) I'll definitely send a donation for your efforts,, you deserve it.

I have found some methods which I am hopeful will eliminate the buffer overflows most of the time, which will be in the next version.
Is it possible, probable, that in the future a user could write to the memory?
Sure, it's possible :)
I'm down with thestaton on this, we've already run into a significant need to be able to back up and restore saved data, as well as a need to just clear all of the saved data in the 9500i, or even just edit it by deleting some etc... so the ability to write back and not just read is of real importance to many of us, as I'm sure you're well aware and likely already working on. Good to know your hinting at already having this problem figured out!
It's cool the way you keep your advancements coming like this, it gives us all a better comprehension of the work you're doing, first just being able to talk to the device via USB, then being able to pull it, now being able to actually make some use of it with this latest release.
I friggin knew this whole time we were only waiting for Escort to send their janitor to programming school because they clearly had no in house coders. They should have out sourced this to have it done 2 years ago, before the product even came out, though in fairness to them, just reading and writing to RAM blocks is a little less complex than doing a complete software update. Like you said though, they have this ability that was handed to them by the chip manufacturer, there's no excuse for them not making software updates downloadable and available (if they had any). Clearly their delays have been like I suspected all along, nothing more than making it pretty enough.
It will be cool to see what you do with this, its a new product on the market so your efforts will come to years of future use. I can't wait to see if you come up with a cool PC interface display like you've done for the V1. I've had my eye on a in dash PC since January and if I could get my 9500i display on the PC monitor while in use that would be off the charts. A dream capability for many of us has been some way to view Expert Mode and Freq display at the same time, not to mention having this all on a PC monitor in real time would allow for many other aspects to be displayed all at the same time which the little on board display is too small to show. If you could have all of the 9500i info shown on a single external screen in real time that would be just above and beyond I think anything even Escort ever had in mind.

I agree! This would be just way too cool if it could be done.
