My Whistler 1580 bit the dust after 8 years, so I coughed up the cash for the 9500i. One thing I miss is the straight non-coiled cord that I had with the Whistler. A coiled cord comes stocked with the 9500i package, and it appears that the only non-coiled cords available are the Direct Wire series. I want to visor-clip the unit like I had before, but the coiled cord with the Passport is too bulky and short...it's a real stretch. I can sacrifice the gps feature (vs. car roof obstruction) and don't have a heavy tint on the upper portion of the windshield. But I want to take the unit with me on out of town trips and visor-clip in the rental car.
Here's my question: Do you see a problem with ordering the (e.g.) Direct Wire Cord and then wiring it to a Vehicle Power Adapter Plug? such as the one sold by Radio Shack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search
This would allow me to have the portability and visor mounting option I need without a big (obvious) coiled cord. Thx for any suggestions.
