    Default speed sign radar

I saw something interesting today I was traveling on HWY 40-61 by Troy MO, my X50 starts going off with a mid range then a full K band alert as approach close enough to see the large speed sign, I see my speed, but guess what, state patrol car hidden behind large speed sign, I wonder if he is shooting also or can get a reading from the sign.

he must have been shooting radar/laser too, because radar must be operated by certified officer, so the speed on the sigh is not valid for a violation

if he was shooting laser or ka band how would are detectors react if picking up a k band signal from the sign?

Depends on the detector. V1 would report multiple bogeys. X50 I believe, Ka overrides K which overrides X, but you can see multiple threats in the expert mode. Other, cheaper detectors will usually alert on the strongest signal, or one band over another.

Most, if not all detectors will alert laser no matter what. Or they should.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Expert mode is the only way to go. I always pass a bank which sets of a false k-band alert. I normaly think nothing of it. Today heading home from work i passed this bank. It was dark and the K alerted followed closesly by Ka-band burst. It was instant on. Expert mode saved my happya** big that day. SO BE CAREFULL.

It does say something in the manual about getting used to the detector before operating in diff modes etc. IMO, setting it to expert as soon as you get it is fine. You are not disabling bands etc, it is just showing you 8 different bars instead of one huge one.

Switch it over when you get a chance, it is one of the X50's best features.

I 2nd. This is one the the best strength's of the X50 being able to detect 2 bogeys with signal strength for each K and Ka bands representing 1 bar for each bogey( 1 bar i believe has 5 tiny dots - i wished they were a bit bigger) and 4 bogeys for X band. The RX65 and V1 does not have this feature.

Yes the X65 does have multiple threat display, just like the X50, except it shows numbers instead of bars.
