NOTE: DO NOT OPEN YOUR 9500I UNLESS YOU ARE EXPERIENCED WITH ELECTRONICS AND ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE IN TAKING PROPER ESD PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT STATIC ELECTRICITY DAMAGE TO YOUR 9500I RADAR DETECTOR! ALSO NOTE THAT THERE IS A SNAP TAB LOCATED NEXT TO THE 9500I'S USB PORT AND THAT YOU MUST LIFT OFF THE BOTTOM PART OF THE 9500I CASE BY CAREFULLY PIVOTING IT OFF ABOUT THIS SNAP TAB POINT.
I am curious, but has anyone peeked inside of their blue 9500i and noted what the model number is for the blue LED display which Escort is using? The red 9500i uses the QCMS-2999N display which is a custom manufactured display produced by Avago Technologies. The 2999N is also used in the Vectors (both S7 and M4 versions). I called Avago Tech today, but they couldn't give me any information, aside from the fact that it runs on 5 volts) about the 2999N display since it is a custom job for Escort.
The 2999N is a 5 volt display, yet the STi and RX-55 use the generic HCMS-3916N red display which is a 3.3 volt display. I suspect the the HCMS-2919 blue display is possibly being used in the blue 9500i radar detectors or that again the blue display in the 9500i may be a custom display.
I guess you can see where I might be going with this. Avago makes different brightness red displays plus orange, green, yellow and blue displays. I am getting an itch to try customizing the display colors in my STi and in my 9500i, or perhaps creating remote in-dash installed displays for my STi and 9500i.
Thanks to anyone who can help answer my question!
