Default Display model number used in Blue 9500i's?

NOTE: DO NOT OPEN YOUR 9500I UNLESS YOU ARE EXPERIENCED WITH ELECTRONICS AND ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE IN TAKING PROPER ESD PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT STATIC ELECTRICITY DAMAGE TO YOUR 9500I RADAR DETECTOR! ALSO NOTE THAT THERE IS A SNAP TAB LOCATED NEXT TO THE 9500I'S USB PORT AND THAT YOU MUST LIFT OFF THE BOTTOM PART OF THE 9500I CASE BY CAREFULLY PIVOTING IT OFF ABOUT THIS SNAP TAB POINT.

    Hi all,

I am curious, but has anyone peeked inside of their blue 9500i and noted what the model number is for the blue LED display which Escort is using? The red 9500i uses the QCMS-2999N display which is a custom manufactured display produced by Avago Technologies. The 2999N is also used in the Vectors (both S7 and M4 versions). I called Avago Tech today, but they couldn't give me any information, aside from the fact that it runs on 5 volts) about the 2999N display since it is a custom job for Escort.

The 2999N is a 5 volt display, yet the STi and RX-55 use the generic HCMS-3916N red display which is a 3.3 volt display. I suspect the the HCMS-2919 blue display is possibly being used in the blue 9500i radar detectors or that again the blue display in the 9500i may be a custom display.

I guess you can see where I might be going with this. Avago makes different brightness red displays plus orange, green, yellow and blue displays. I am getting an itch to try customizing the display colors in my STi and in my 9500i, or perhaps creating remote in-dash installed displays for my STi and 9500i.

Thanks to anyone who can help answer my question!

I figured the Blue display used more power, with the blue displays in my industry they are much larger but also use more power. They also tend to interfere with touch sensitive buttons. :?
My new Blue 9500I is still too new for me to open up yet, but maybe some day. 8)

By the way the Blue 9500I takes about 5 seconds to power up once power is supplied. I attribute this to the blue display requiring a full 5v to power up properly. All my red 9500I's turned on as soon as power was supplied.

I think Escort is using one Avago's blue 5v displays since the red display is 5v too. CJR, have a quick look if you would. Simply take out the two bottom case screws, then lift off the bottom case by lifting off the side opposite of the USB port. A tiny bit of jiggling might be necessary to unlatch the snap next to the USB port. The photo below shows the 9500i with its bottom case cover removed, and shows the locations of the "snap" type latch and the LED display's part number:

Needless to say, observe ESD precautions -- especially if you plan on touching anything inside the case or if you think that you might accidentally touch anything inside of the case. Note that part of the LED display's part number will be partially covered up by part of the molded plastic housing which supports the display, but hopefully you will be able to figure out what each digit is. The display will most likely be labeled "HCMS-XXXX" where XXXX are digits.
