its a rev 6.1, my understanding is that 6.1 to a 6.4 only has to do with the equipment used and not the software and will not have any different detection capabilities

correct, since its a friend i guess it doesn't matter. My concern is not the rev# but if the RD is out of tune.

The x50 is a great detector... you made a good choice. If you need any advice hardwiring it just PM me. I also have a 350Z and it wasn't any trouble at all to hardwire my detector. I see you're on the 350Z forum as well...

As for the laser alerts... I never had any falses with my x50 but my g/f gets them all the time on her 9500i (once every couple days). I'm not really sure what the problem is but laser detection isn't really that much an issue b/c it typically wont protect you anyway.

Give the X50 some time to see it react to all threats before you start trusting it, as well as some falses like you stated. Most likely its fine, im just paranoid about the unknown, especially a RD that could of been dropped or smashing in someones trunk for a year.
You don't want to find out the hard way. The 1 big plus is the X50 will most likely tell you "service required" if somethings wrong.

Bel and Escort products immediately perform a "self calibration" when they are turned on, and periodically perform additional self cals during operation. If there ever is a problem with properly completing the self cal then a self calibration error message will be displayed on the LED display. If the radar detector completely fails to self calibrate due to a serious internal problem, then "service required" will be displayed on LED display. Note that a bad power connection or unclean power to the radar detector can cause either of these error messages to be displayed, so checking power connections after frequently getting either of these messages is a logical step before you decide that your radar detector needs to go in for service. Getting a "self cal" message once in a blue moon is fairly common and most likely is caused by either noise or a momentary power glitch in your car's electrical system. Thus the occasional yet rarely occurring "self cal" message is no cause for concern.

    +1.

And also with this one, some (i.e. individual unit - meaning: "yours versus mine") detectors simply seem to do this more often than others.

Yea TQUILL, I ordered a invisicord and I'm going to see if I can find a good place to mount it on my windshield using just that, but if not I also saw that mount that hooks up to the review mirror. I'll see how it goes.

I need to find out if I can get a new inspection sticker. The one the dealership put on is basically right in the spot I want to put my detector, it's in the way. :x

Also, I drove past a cop on a regular street road and my X50 didn't go off. It gave me a K alert that went up about 1-2 minutes before I drove past him and then stopped beeping.

Does the X50 alert you and then stop, or should it normally continue until the threat passes? I'm guessing maybe this is the automute feature?
