Default Would there be an reason for the smart cord to ALERT only?

I got stuck in traffic today heading into work which is normal when I leave 15 mins earlier then I need too >0

Its stop and go stop and go because of an accident way the hell north. I think about taking the 8500 down to get it out of the sun and when I look down I see the ALERT LED in the smart cord on but when I look up at the RD it says AUTO.

There were cops up there and we do have those big black signs to tell you if there is traffic ahead but nothing in the RD display. Interesting...

The only time I've had the red LED on constantly on the Smart Cord was when one of my cords was short circuting, or some wires were touching. It was my converted coiled Smart Cord that was attached to some phone wire (the thin type.) I fixed it by getting normal phone wire, which has individual wires.

I figure you have a "stock" cord, so you probably don't have shorted wires inside, just throwing my experience out there.

The solution might be as simple as re-crimping the RJ-11 connector on the cord. I am not saying to cut the original connector off -- just re-crimp the existing connector. Be sure to unplug the coiled cord from your cigarette lighter first! If you have either type of hard wired cord, be sure to remove the inline fuse first before re-crimping!

Oh so maybe an electronics problem?

I will probably hardwire here this summer but am contemplating doing the smartcord or just a hard 12V splice to the moonroof area. I think the latter would take about 15 mins but adding the smart cord would look a lot cooler. I need to check with my buddy from my car board and see where he put his (if he's even done it yet...).

    Thanks guys

I suggest a hardwire instead of a simple 12V splice to the moonroof area. With a custom hardwire install, you will have the remote LEDs and remote mute button, will have a solid connection to ground if done right, will have the built-in inline fuse, and will have a solid connection to +12V power even if you use an add-a-fuse and use the right kind of crimp on the crimping tool.
