Default What the heck do I have?

Yup, you read it correctly--I don't know what I have.

I just purchased a used car (2007) that came with an "Escort SR7+". I didn't pay anything extra for the Escort, so I consider it simply "icing on the cake".

But, I'm curious what it really is. I don't believe the SR7+ designation is correct, as I don't find this used often in my Google searching. Although I do see some occurrences of its use here.

It was advertised by the seller as a "laser jammer", but as I understand it the SR7 does not inherently have "laser jamming" capability, unless you addon.

    Perhaps a description will help:

o small, slender control unit with front display mounted in the glove compartment
o small single LED (two color-red/green) mounted on steering column
o two front sensors mounted/concealed in the front bumper
o one rear sensor mounted at the top of the rear license plate
o small, clickable control button (volume/mute) conceal mounted within reach of driver

When the unit is turned on, it reads on the display (in part), "shifting ON" and "laser N/A" (or something close to that ).

Is this just a SR7 unit without laser "jamming" capability? If so, is it safe to call it "just" a radar detector and as such is undetectable by LEOs?

Is it worth running the SR7 in concert with my Valentine 1?

    Thanks!!

Sounds like you have just an SR7, witch is just a remote installed version of my detector. The SRX is the SR7 and the ZR3 combined, and if you had a SRX installed, you would be able to see the laser 'shifters' on the front and back of your car, the rear sensor would be on the top or bottom of the licence plate, and the front sensors would be located some where in the front grill of your car, and those sensors would be alot smaller than the radar antenna witch could be anywhere in front of the car.
So yeah, if you have the SR7 you can safely say it's 'just' a radar detector, but the SR7/SRX is not undetectable by RDD's and is actually one of the easiest to pick up by the spectre.
LEOs without a RDD wouldn't know you had a RD because it's installed in your car and there's nothing on the windsheild.

As for the SR7/V1 combo it should be pretty good combo, erickonphoneix, another forum member has awesome results using that combo and he makes vids. on youtube so you can watch the stuff in action. His vids. are the $#!+

I *believe* that the "SR7+" designation did refer to a model of the SR7, historically, which did carry the ZR3 Laser Shifter option.

InTheAir, I would encourage you to call Escort Customer Support, given them your product Serial Number and ask to speak to an actual Technical Advisor, to sort out exactly what item you have.

Technically speaking, the external sensors you described should be the laser sensors, as they fit the ZR3 description almost to a "T," and I would be very surprised if they were only receivers (although a "Receive Only" mode is capable of being toggled with the ZR3 and its "SR" cousins, you should thus also question the Tech Advisor as to how to verify as well as switch between such modes).

I will bet he has laser shifters as well, the rear plate has the shifter on it by his description. The plus might of been a dealer unit that the + was for shifters as opposed to the SRX.

    Thanks guys for the help.

And by the way, the VD cleared up after a series of meds.

Two LEDs up front and one in the back with an SR7 head display.

Sounds like you have the same thing I do. A SR7 with the ZR3 added to it. Not unusual for people that bought the SR7 thinking they could do without the jamming capability only to catch a lidar ticket later then purchasing the ZR3 as an upgrade. This is exactly why my setup is the way it is.

SR7+ is SR7 PLUS shifters, you effectively have and Escort SRX

EDIT: Hold MUTE+MODE buttons to go in program mode, then scroll through to bands, select laser, it should have on/off/shft, select shft to turn jamming on

All righty, now we're on to something.

I did this and can confirm now that the unit is in SHFT mode. I actually then did a full reset and again set:

    City NoX
    Bands MOD
    X OFF
    LSR SHFT

During the startup sequence, the unit scrolls through and states at the end:

    LsrR N/A

This seems to indicate that the rear receiver isn't functioning properly, correct?
