Default Just got 9500i at a great price

I found it on craigslist. The guy sent me a bunch of pictures and stuff. I think he got his license suspended. It should be here in the mail next Tuesday or Wednesday. He bought it about a year ago at Car Toys with the Smart Cord, or whatever it's called.

Anyway. I have a few questions. I have a black '98 Trans Am. The windshield is pretty shallow (makes more of an acute angle with the dash) , there's some tint at the very top along the windshield. Should I mount in the middle? Up near the rearview mirror? I did a search, so that's why I'm asking what people suggest, since I do have a black car, tint at the top, etc. Anything else I should know? I'm a bit excited about getting this.

may as well mount it high, looking out from under the tint strip. . . just make sure it also has a clear view of the sky above for GPS signal reception

Ok. So, as high as I can without being under the tint strip.

Also, I'm going to take the RD in with me every night, but what about when I'm in class, at work, or whatever? And what about leaving it in the hot car? Thanks.

As long as it's not in direct sun you should be fine. I put mine in a door panel 'cubby' I have in my car along with the case and whatever stuff I don't want to be seen out in the open.

All right. Cool. Do you leave the suction cups there, too? I know some people take everything off.

Yeah the cups I leave up.

I was just like you when I first got my 8500. I took it down and hid it everytime I left the car but over time you kinda know places you can leave it up and places you can't. At work I park so I can see whatever I am driving so if it is cold out or a cloudy day I will leave it up. At school I take it down all the time and when I go to the store I will usually leave it up but it depends on the weather and that particular store. I still have mine running out of the cig lighter so it is east to get it down. I am trying to get it hardwired this week and once it is up near the mirror I will be more comfortable leaving it up.

I got mine on Craigslist too. Paid $80 for it but had to go to the Wal Tron and buy new suction cups on day three. The Escort ones are ok when they are new but over time they yellow and fail. Here is a pic of my 'custom' cups lol.

They were too big to clear each other so I used a scissors and a nail clipper to make them smaller. After that I took a hacksaw blade, folded it over and used it to chew up the 'nipple' so it would fit in the bracket. No problems since. Holds like a charm.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I should be getting the detector today, so we'll see if I got a really good deal on it. If I did, I'll tell you what I paid.

your in a rock and a hard place on the T/A. If you mount it up by the head liner the auto dim is not going to work. If you mount it directly below the rear view mirror where you can just see the display, then you can't get to the buttons without moving the mirror.

if you move it to the left of the mirror, then you can't use your sun visor.

if you move it down below the rear view mirror then it's hard to get to while driving.

basically I could never find a spot I was comfortable with in my T/A.

maybe try out one of the mounts from country craft joy. I used one on my T/A with my V1 and loved that.
