Question about used Passport 8500

I am considering buying a three and a half year old 8500 for $100, but have a few questions. Would it be better to buy buy a newer model, because it would have newer software? Is that a fair price? Where is the best place to buy suction cups, thats all it's missing?

First off, you say it is 3 1/2 years old, then it would have to be an 8500 X50. Is it an 8500 X50 or a plain 8500? If it is a plain 8500, it is older than 3 1/2 years. Not to say the plain 8500 is a bad unit, I own one and it works as well as my 2 X50s do. As far as whether to buy it or a newer one, that is dependent on your driving style/budget/radar threats, etc.

Suction cups? Buy them from Escort.

First of all, welcome to the board. Newer software is irrelevant. Law enforcement tools have not changes since the release of the Escort 8500, so it will detect everything used by law enforcement. The only radar detected by current RDs that is not detected by the 8500 is POP radar, which is almost never used.

Is that a fair price?

If it works and does not have to be sent in for a tuneup or repair, then yes. I would consider the 8500 in the same catergory as today's budget RDs.

You can usually find them on Ebay. If not there, then escort's website has them for a little more.

You can get suction cups at Michael's Craft Store. They are a lot better than the ones from Escort, IMO. Cheaper too.
