Default X band off or on?

Do we really need to have the X band on?

Also I heard that we should not brake hard when the RD detects a LEO. Why?

    You'd have to answer that.
Depends on if you want to be 100% safe or not (i.e. - you can never say 100% that you'll never encounter an LEO using X or speedsign etc using X)....if you live in a town where you've NEVER seen X being used (i.e. - you'd have to have owned a detector for a while to know)......then you may feel comfortable shutting it off. I however in New England still have X LEO's around, and wouldnt take that chance anyway. I'd rather deal with the falses.

A cop is likely to see your car do a nose dive if you jack on your brakes.

^^If you've never used a RD before, I wouldn't turn anything off just yet. Around here, I am 99.99% sure LEO's don't use x band radar. It should take weeks or months before you may feel comfortable turning x off. Ka is used here almost exclusively, but I have "caught" the sheriff using K very infrequently

Speaking of sheriff, I had a buddy who became a deputy in our home town and he always told me to never hit the breaks if the LEO could see it because it was an instant admission of guilt. Now, if you get a radar signal and the LEO is not in sight by all means, slow down!

yeah good luck not jamming the brake and putting your head into the windshield when you're in a daze and suddenly get a blarring LAZER alert!

If you are like me and live in Ohio, leave it on.

I leave in S. California never see a LEO using X band. Just the amount of X out of garage doors etc. is Annoying.

About the brakes Im not sure. I ride motorcycles about 80 mph and some times when the LEO comes on the freeway oposite direction the 9500I blast the alarm really fast even if the LEO is 1/2 mile away. To slow down from 80 to 65 takes a bit of brake.

    Any comments?

There's no X band in SoCal. My just sold SRX and my V1 both had(have) X band disabled. I do leave it on when using my 9500i or 9500ci, since I can just lock out all of the false alarms and be ready if some local PD decided to buy some old X band radar unit to pick on RD users that have their X band radar reception turned off. But if you are not using either the 9500i or the 9500ci, then your only 2 options are to turn X band off, or suffer through a multitude of false alarms.

X band is still in use in Raleigh, NC (where I live). I wouldn't have believed it, but I have seen it at least twice with my own eyes.

I would say to leave it on because you never can be 100 percent sure that you won't one day encounter some crazy cop somewhere you least expect it running X.

I think hitting the brakes during an IO encounter is okay. If it truly is IO, you're screwed anyway. Otherwise, who knows? He may clocking the car ahead of you. Or maybe he'll see you slowing down and realize you're trying to obey the PSL and let you off.
