You are now chatting with 'Aaron'
Aaron: Thank you for your interest in Escort! How may I help you today?
you: Hi, I'm looking at the new detectors you have that feature GPS
Aaron: Great choice! What questions did you have?
you: I'm a little hesitant to make any purchases because I'm a member on a forum board that deals with a lot of Escort detectors.
Aaron: I am here, what was your question?
you: Oh, sorry.
you: I've also noticed that several members recently have voiced there frustration and disappointment over the fact that a new detector just came out when they were assured less than a month ago that the one they purchased was the latest and greatest.
Aaron: Ah you are referring to the ix.
you: They kind of feel betrayed that less than a month after purchasing the 9500i, they're now forced to pay a charge to get an update.
Aaron: You and you're other members are welcome to have their 9500i upgraded to the ix technology. However they still do have the best detector to date as far as performance is concerned.
Aaron: Ah, you beat me...I see what you mean.
you: This charge on top of the $500 they spent already with Escort.
Aaron: The upgrade is only for the Trinity database subscription service. It has nothing to do with the normal functions of the 9500i.
Aaron: Think of it like two brand new cars. EVery feature can be found in both, except one has bluetooth headset ability where the other does.
Aaron: If you would really like the bluetooth headset feature, you're welcome to have it added to your vehicle. But you don't need it to still enjoy every other feature.
you: So what will this "upgrade" give you? And what will the cost be? Are there any plans to do the upgrade at a discount or free for those that just purchased a 9500i?
Aaron: I haven't heard of a confirmed price or release date for this upgrade to be performed, but I'm sure there will be a discounted rate for our factory direct customers.
Aaron: The upgrade provides the hardware and software for your 9500i to connect to your home PC and utilize our new subscription update service to the Trinity camera network.
you: What about factor direct customers that just purchased a 9500i? One would think you'd give them a break over the guy that purchased his 9500i factory direct in the first weeks of release, right?
Aaron: Again I've simply no idea how to answer that as we have not been provided such information.
Aaron: I'm sure when we come closer to the release date of early August more information will be provided.
you: Might be something Escort should consider? Similar to how Apple angered their customers who'd forked out a ton of money for early iphones and then saw a new version get release right after for the same price? Apple gave those customers money back. Just seems like it may hurt Escorts reputation a bit if not.
Aaron: I'm sure that such considerations would be taken, and thank you for the input.
you: One more question...it appears that you have also done away with the blue version of the regular 9500i?
you: Does the 9500i only come in Red now and the ix only in Blue?
Aaron: I'm sure you mean we've done away with the red version.....
Aaron: oh! you're looking at the website.
Aaron: Both version are still there...let me show you...
Aaron: Most interesting.....
you: you cant find it either can you?
Aaron: I can't!
Aaron: It seems it's been moved to a phone only order item. How strange....
Aaron: Look at this...
you: So is that the deal? I know there use to be links...but now theres no link for the blue, nor is it listed to the right list. Perhaps the plan is to do away with the 9500i completely since the ix is the same price as the blue? Escort is thinking noone will buy a blue "i" when the "ix" is the same price?
you: Wow, interesting link!
you: Thanks for you help. I appreciate the info straight from the company.
Aaron: You are very welcome. Is there anything else I can help you with?
you: No thanks - have a good one.
Aaron: You too.
