Default 8500 x50 / 9500i, GOL numbers, and lab results.

Current V1 user (v1.8 / 3.826). Looking to switch back to Escort as mentioned in a previous thread of mine.

Anyway, was looking at the 08/2007 results from GOL; I realize that real-world traffic does not operate with radar-attenuating foam, but the x50's dramatically reduced performance on most of Ka is worrisome to me.

The odd part is that according to Aaron at Escort, the 9500i and the 8500 x50 vary only in features, not performance. I care mostly about the performance and could go either way with GPS functionality in a detector.

Any thoughts as to why the August '07 GOL numbers are what they are? Is there really that notable of a Ka difference between the 9500i and the x50 in practice?

I currently use a 9500i and had a x50 before that. Both are great detectors. From personal experience, I noticed the 9500i has greater performance. Just the other day, I was alerted KA band about 3.2 miles from the source. On that same stretch of open highway, I would never receive such a warning from that distance with a x50. If I recall, on that same highway, the greatest distance I received an alert from the x50 was 1.2 miles. In others words, I get earlier warnings with my 9500i.

Wait until our next radar test in 2008. We have the perfect course. Our 2007 test was really not all that good burt we have learned from it and have only gotten better

Can't wait for GOL 2008. Will we see results from the 9500ix against the 9500i? Just wondering if the performances differ.

NO they are the same RD with just different features. You will see the 9500XI

Was actually hoping to place an order within the next 48 hours. While I look forward to seeing that, what do you think of all this based on what we know now?

What do you mean? I know for 100% fact that this XI update has ZERO to do with performance. It has more to do with keeping the professor's hands of it and database reasons. It will be the SAME EXACT platform as the X50/RX65/9500i/Vector Series

Right, but I'm not worried about the XI. I couldn't care less about its features. I'm just wondering about the performance delta between the x50 and 9500i as on your site, and whether it'd be worth that extra $100.

For two detectors that are supposed to be of equivalent performance, it seems awfully weird to me for there to be such a huge gap on Ka between the x50 and 9500i.

Keep in mind that our last radar test did not turn out to be what we wanted because the course that I had picked out ended up being a dud so we had to pick another one that was not all that great. Our next radar test should paint a MUCH better picture. The men WILL BE separated from the boys
