    1) BEL 995

    2) two weeks

    3) yes, it occurred within 30 minutes of self-cal message

    4) I bought from BEL direct and returned it to them. I kept the 985.

    5) Yes. RDs are complex devices and they are going to fail once in awhile. I like BELs, but I still do prefer my V1.

    1. BEL 980
    2. 1 year.
    3. No... But the could be considered dead. It falses on KA so so badly you just wanna throw it out the window while going 80!
    4. Nope... I was a dumb@ss ebay buyer.
    5. I would not purchase from Bel/Escort. I see others have problem with these things. Self Cal? Service required? what the hell!
I have heard good things so far about V1 and that will most likely be my next unit. But i will definetely buy from the V1 website and not Ebay.

    V1's - indestructable

Bel / Escort - very sensitive, Escort's "paint" scratches and chips too easily too

    1) What type of Bel/Escort product do you own?
    Bel RX65

    2) How long did you have the RD before you got the self-cal message?
    8 months

    3) Did the service required message come on after the self-call message? If so, how long after?
    Yes, 5min

    4) Was your unit replaced under warranty?
Just happened today, haven't made a warranty claim yet

    5) Would you purchase an Escort/Bel again?
    Undecided

A few things to note here: I received the 'Service Required' message once before. I associated it to heat of the day and the sun on the detector, the RX65 was almost too hot to touch. There were similar conditions today, the only thing different is today's message was preceded by the 'Self Cal' note. I am always turning on and off the car without turning off the RX65. The voltage surge may be at fault.

    1) Escort model X50 Rev 5.
    2) 4 Months old.
    3) No Service required message. (Yet)
    4) N/A
    5) Hesitant to purchase again.

Note: Ambient air temp was around 60 F. I had however left it in the direct sun while shopping for about 35 minutes. Started vehicle, the X50 went into "self cal" display mode and also began beeping two short beeps, then pausing about 2 seconds, then repeated this pattern for about 20 seconds duration, at which time it returned to normal and has been fine for two weeks now.

    1. Radar - X50
    2. Used for 5 months
    3. No self calibration message so far
    4. N/A - no problem yet
    5. Will buy another one if it's better than the X50 and specially if it's spectre proof.
