Ooops! Just bought an 8500 by mistake!

Yeah I saw the GOL test. It didn't show 50% but obviously the x50 was better. That's why I was hoping to bid on an x50. I think in my head I was thinking the 8500 non-x50 looked more like the 7500

So are you going to give your wife the 8500? I would have gotten rid of the cobra by now, but I that's just because I hate them with a passion

Anyways, what was your reason for wanting an X50 in the first place? Your 955 should be about the same in preformance, doesn't it have voice alerts too? I wish my X50 had that.

Eh, I was just wanting another detector to doodle around with. The wife's Cobra was out being "fixed" and it DID, as I have said before, do okay for her. I was just thinking it'd be nice to have another GOOD detector and use the Cobra as a backup.... I had been thinking of buying either an XTR-690 or 695 for her, truthfully. But I was also bidding on a couple of low end XTRs as well, just, as I said, to screw around with. Right now the wife's alternated between two bigger piles of doo, my Sensoro Silver Bullet (horrible!) and my little Cobra ESD 737 (aka a Wal-Mart ESD 7000). One thing I HAVE noticed is the little cheapo Cobra gets the best X band detection of any of my detectors. Can't say that means much....

Yeah, I like the voice alerts on my v955. I could run in dark mode, really. The tones are distinct (Bel's used the same X and K tones for at least the past 12-15 years) and even if I were to forget, there's the voice to remind me.

To tell you the truth as good as whistler is, I just don't like the way the alerts sound. Have you ever heard a whistler go off? The alerts are kinda werid in my oppion, not sure if your wife would think the same or not. I like the way a cobra sounds better haha. That's the only thing thats ever kept me from buying a whistler
And yeah, you said 34.7 and K band is mainly used in your area, so I can see how a cobra might be pretty good over there, my first RD before I found this site was an ESD 7000 and sometimes it was okay, and when I ran into the occasional 35.5 I was like WTF!?!

When I first got the Bel I'd look for a bird when it alerted to X band , now I just keep X off in town. The K/Ka alerts are acceptable.

Run the X50, give her the 955. Then after a good compare time, pick the one you like better. And that will be the X50.

You should get a $50 discount off the 9500i because the 8500 nonX50 is a discontinued escort RD. Haha I can't belive you're about to go 9500ix, tell me how it is man I was thinking of one too, decided to go V1 though for maximum around the curve/ over the hill protection that my X50 dosen't always give me.

BTW, what do they use in your area? I know you have to be using the spec mode on your 8500 right?

Yeah same here. I was leaving Lowes tonight, taking that road behind the place and I was about to hit my road and a cop turned in and it went from 2-6 bars in a second. Not warning at all before that. He pulled on my road and took off. Must of been looking for something.

Yeah the xi/ix is a dream at the moment lol. If I get a full-time j again I think I will upgrade to something. I miss the money of that. I did full-time for 6 mos after high school then went part-time at night for a year and a half plus and now I want to go back to full-time in my field which is accounting. To save you more of my bio! If I go back to f-t then I will probably buy the xi. If I stay in school (still working part-time) it is the 8500 watching my ass. Who knows, maybe I'll snag another Escort for cheap on CL.
