I was just browsing craigslist in my area and bought an X50 (red) for 150$. I was always wanting to test an X50 and so I thought this is the perfect chance, also I know someone who wants to buy an X50 for 200$ so I can make a 50$ profit at the least!
Currently, my friends are borrowing my V1 for their PA/NY road trip so I am detectorless and planning on selling the V1 anyways to buy the 9500xi (possibly, after August). Either way, this X50 is going to hold me over and/or turn me a profit.
The case is in pretty good condition, no real major damages, just a few wear and tear blemishes here and there (the case IS plastic, so you know how the paint goes on those). Gave it a nice clean up job with some glass cleaner and bought some new suction cups for the mount yesterday, nice and clear instead of the yellowed ones it came with. I'm going to say this guy had this one for a while, but is there a way to tell by the serial number about the build date? The last 4 digits of the serial number seem to be separated looking similar to the 9500i style of build date notation, IIRC it's '2304'.
I want to test how in-tune it is, or if I should send it in to be tuned. Judging from the apparent wear on it, I assume he had it a while, even the carrying case looked like it was a bit rugged, even on the inside. Half retail price, I couldn't complain.
I have the unit set to expert mode, POP off, LoX, and everything else the same (H+.-> pilot mode).
I know it does work, I was entering the walmart parking lot yesterday and got a K alert which wasn't that strong (it was on the side of me, 1-3 dots max). On the ride to work today I got the usual K/X from the CVS/stores but again it wasn't that strong or ahead of time. I did have it on Auto mode, which maybe filtered out some of them?
I'm used to the V1 where it detects everything from an insane distance away usually and doesn't filter anything so I don't want to confuse "out of tune" with "ignoring falses" that Escort is known for.
What are some good test cases you guys suggest for this? I haven't encountered any LEOs with it yet (as of 2 days), but then again I don't encounter very many in my typical drive around the area. When I go back home this weekend to visit my parents I'll definitely have a good test case set up with the X band drones that are on the interstate, as I know their exact strength and distance from my numerous drives back and forth.
Just wondering, what do you guys usually do to test like this? I'm getting my V1 back this weekend as well, can I run them side by side easily? If so, how/where should I mount each? Will escort take it and tune it for me? If so, will they also replace the outer casing/lens?
I know there's a lot of questions but I know you guys are good at answering them.
