A while back I purchased a 8500 (Rev 6.1) from CL and loved it ever since. About two weeks ago I decided to purchase the Zr3 Shifter (used from CL) and pair it with the x50. The Shifter did not come with the interface. Just the cord to attach it to the x50. I took the x50 out of my car (08 Scion xB) and tested everything on my work bench with a 12V 500mA supply I believe. Everything went well. The x50 powered up and says "ZR3 SHIFTER."
So I decided to install it. The Rear shifter is installed on the license plate and ran through the back hatch. Above in the headliner on the left side of the vehicle, then down the A-piller down into the dash. The interface is underneath the center console.
The fronts are installed in the front grill (with zip ties ) and the wires are run parallel on the front grill. Then up the drivers side and then run into the firewall into the center console.
The whole setup worked good for about 2 days. Then I washed the car and thats when the problems came. The R shifter started to error out like crazy when I would start the vehicle. This drove me nuts so I just turned off the Shifter on the x50. Then a few days ago (after more washes and rains) I turned on the shifter NOW the fronts error out and give off false warnings like crazy.
I called up Escort and they believe the wires could have possibly degraded over time. So I figured I would just replace the wires. Is this an easy task? Should I just cut my loss and buy a 9500i? Any suggestions guys? Halp!
