Took a trip to the outlet mall yesterday (screw the recession!) and wanted to use the 9500i in the wifey's car. The coiled cord from my 8500 x50 blue (1006) would not power it up.

Does your coiled cord from your X50 still power up the X50, yet still won't power up the 9500i? Have you tried testing it with both of your RDs in your rather than your wife's car?
^^ Basically I just unplugged my wifes x50 and plugged in my 9500i in her vehicle. Not a peep.
Strange.....it really should work just fine..... ?
My hardwire SmartCord in my wife's vehicle is left-over from my x50 install, and it powers my 9500i just fine.....
Perhaps test the Smartcord again with your X50 to be sure that the Smartcord is still working fine. The Smartcords do have a small light green ceramic fuse in them. Maybe the fuse got popped somehow. Or maybe the phone plug needs to be recrimped.
^^ When I found that the 9500i did not power up I just hooked the 8500 x50 back up. No problems.
BTW TSi, congratulations on yet another promotion!

^ Holy crap! When did that happen!?!!! Thanks for noticing, and notifying me!

That's most strange indeed....
MEM-TEK and others - do you think that perhaps there's some internal resistance defect, accumulated in his old SmartCord, that's causing it to pull insufficient juice to power-up the more demanding 9500i ?
odd that your power cord isn't powering the 9500. i am using my 8500x50 hardwire (smart cord version) on my 9500iX with no issues. i also have 2 older cigarette basic chargers (non-smart cord charger) and both work fine with the 9500iX.
Oh noooooooooooo!!!
I fried my 9500i in my wife's car!
None of the cables I have power it up.
I just recently figured out what happened. I had switched over the x50 for the 9500i the night before our trip. My son was playing in the vehicle the day we left and when I came out to start the car to leave the lights were on and it had drained the battery enough so that all I could get was that "clicking" starter sound. I "jumped" the vehicle and it started right up but everything had to be re-coded (the nav and radio).
Do you think I did some major damage?
It's definitely going back to Escort and I might as well get the "ix" upgrade while it's there.
The question is do I tell them *exactly* what happened or do I tell them it just stopped working?
ouch! it should be under warranty so why worry?
