    Default CI=Crappy Laser Jammer

Why would Escort put out the CI when the laser jammer is not perfected?Does LI have a patent that is keeping Escort from heading in that direction?Just dont understand.....they had to know it was not up to par before releasing it.

Well, being we can update the firmware I hope they are working hard on getting some new firmware ready for it.

The same reason that they released the Escort 9500ix and charged people $130 to update their supposedly "upgradeable" 9500i.

Belscort cares about the money while Valentine Research cares about the people.

I'm fairly new at this. But I think it boils down to how powerful the laser diodes are. The car can be detected before it's in close enough in range to be jammed.

I think this is why folks are strongly urging putting Veil. This buys enough distance to get close enough to Jam.

Also in another thread there was a hint from another post that quoted Escort in saying something to the effect "In case we upgrade the Heads...".

Power on the heads probably also effect the width it can cover as well.

That's not all of it I'm sure but I think it's big part of it.

Also I read somewhere that LI has the heads constantly on, but I'm not sure if that is still true.

So my understanding is with Veil it runs respectable. And as the GOL folks say it was worst case big truck with lots of chrome. allowing the distance of detection VERY far for the LIDAR to get a locked reading.

I think their are a lot of variables here and you have to look at the whole picture and what's more typical.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on the fense too with ZR4 and LI.

well you would think they would have done the software before production, yes the detection range on radar is first class....but the jammers are not...just seems like a poor thought out over all plan

Its also an LED jammer- less expensive, doesn't perform as well as the Laser Diodes

Mine works fine for the threats in my area. My biggest problem with the ZR4s are the false alerts. They're almost as bad as the V1. This is the biggest reason I am adding the LIs I just purchased to my setup. No false alerts. The LIs are also the best and will do a much better job of protecting the back of my car and will leave me no doubt that I am fully protected.

My ZR4s perform pretty well on my car, with the exception of the Stalker. Luckily I do not ever see the Stalker in my area. As far as jamming capabilities are concerned, the laser guns that I have to deal with are the LTI Ultralyte, PL III and soon, the LTI TruSpeed. Radar Roy tested the ZR4s against the TruSpeed at SML and reported that it did very well. As far as my other two threats are concerned, these are the results RacerX and I got when we tested my ZR4s:

    9500ci Laser Jamming Test Summary

    Spoiler: show
Mustang GT Convertible, Bel STi-R Plus, V1 3.892 hardwired with X and K off, Laser Interceptor Quad.
9500ix confiscated by the woman and hardwired high in her car.
