    Default Passport 5000

What do you think a passport 5000 is worth in good shape? I only need it for the radar not laser reception.

All I know is that cheap radar detectors= bad detection

It depends but I would say maybe like $10 or 20 maybe more depending on how well it works and looks.

Possibly the best, most innovative RLD from Escort. A response to the V1, no doubt.
They go for $50 on EBay. The equivalent Cobra goes for $25. This is the first Escort with an "Expert Meter"/bogey display that is actually better than the current display as it generates pseudo-Gaussian peaks that are really easy to interpret. Alas, the LCD is harder to see.
Has a sliding highway/city switch, so it retains this setting.
Actually rejects false signals from crappy detectors, and indicates "rejecting false signal". Showed excellent rearward laser detection in tests, even in the absence of a lightpipe: Has a big photocell.
X-Band equivalent to X-50 (perhaps a bit better)
    K-band roughly the same
Ka--ok but I have no standard comparison for Ka.
Laser--actually tracks signal strength instead of tripping a Dark Side of the Moon (Time) alarm clock.
You can still get accessories (uses current mount hardware) from Escort. They tend to blow out their sonalerts, but 6 volt replacements from obsolete motherboards are near exact replacements. They also are prone to failure of the solder joints on the power connection. This is an easy repair. I also back the solder up with Loctite 404 so as to relieve the load imparted by the power cord.

Thanks for the info. I bid on one on ebay and got it for $31. I guess I can't go wrong and it will give me something to mess with while I wait for V1 to straighten out their software issues.

Enjoy. If you have problems with the power cord, you can still get them from Escort, but I've found that any cord will work well if you slice a 1/8" rubber strain-relief grommet into 2 donuts with a razor. This slides on the standard long-barrel power plug and makes the plug seat securely.

Not yet! I got an email today with a tracking number. I guess the holiday messed up the shipping. After seeing the GOL tests I think I may have an excellent detector for $31. I do not need pop around here or laser in this area and the 5000 was the last of the quality detectors from that era. I will keep you updated.
