Default opinions?

I have a blue 9500i build 4407. I also own an Sti of the same time of year (July 07) - has the 33.8 fix. I also have a ZR3 shifter that I am replacing with a LI soon.

My car is big and black (2003 Mercury Marauder) and has little in the way of reflective surfaces. I have laser shields on the plates.

I am wondering about what setup to use. I think I may sell the Sti and go with an ix (trade/upgrade the i) as my detector. After reading the tests, I don't think I want the ci unless it is offered without the zr4, which I have been told it will never be.

So my question is, as far as detection range how much difference is there between the ix and the ci? Has anyone tested this?

Also, I am either going to sell the zr3 on fleabay and get a quad LI or move the three zr3 heads to the rear and use a dual LI up front. Does anyone see a problem with mounting all 3 zr3 heads rear? The state patrol here does use rear shots from overpasses on a regular basis, often from close range.

So - which detector? And, can I use the zr3 all rear or do I just ditch it for a LI quad? I obviously am considering the $ difference here. I don't see any used zr3s for sale so I don't know what it would go for - probably not more than $150.

Thanks

My 9500ix is very sensitive, but it does not compare to my 9500ci.

I do not think even the three head ZR3 can properly protect the rear of that car.

I much prefer the 9500ix over the STi, but that just my opinion. The 9500ix is basically a super duper quiet STi with better alerts, at least for the moment.

Your deffinatley going to have to get a LI for the rear shots.

One question I forgot to ask -

I have read nowhere that the 9500ix is undetectable to the Spectre.

Is it?

IA is using Spectres now and it just *might* matter in my choice. Not a huge issue as RDs and jammers are legal here but just another thought to add.

I've been pulled over twice using the 9500i (no tix) and zero with the Sti - probably just coincidence, but they also could be harassing RD users as the 2 times I was pulled over it was obvious he had no real reason.

I can't go with the ci.

1) I need to be able to switch cars with the RD.

2) the zr4 jammer - I won't spend a dime on it from what I have read. If I could get the detector alone *maybe* but Escort told me today never gonna happen. As long as I have to get the LI anyway for real protection no reason to waste money.

Pic of the rear of the car is attached. There is room inside the decklid trim (where it meets the bumper cover) for the two other heads if I do some careful cutting.

No, the undetectable Escort is the 9500ci, not the 9500ix.

Dang. You'd think since it's not a casing thing but a signal leak thing, they'd be able to do it on the current case design.

Nice car BTW. I really like the Marauder.

The Bel STiR is shifterless but you can add the ZR3 to it if you want.

Here in Texas DPS sometimes uses they're stalkers to time Instant On hits. It's rare enough that I've never encountered it but both the V1 and SR7 are VG2 immune so they may be clandestine enough to get by a Spectre III.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the ZR3 or ZR4 will not integrate with the STi-R.

The newer V1s and especially the SR7 are extremely easy to detect with a Spectre.

well ok then, someone please correct me if I'm wrong but it's my theory that the STi-R and 9500ci sensitivity in part is much higher to accommodate it's location outside the cabin and lower than it would otherwise be inside (just a theory now, no flames) but what I don't get is why the remote version is undetectable and the 9500ix wouldn't necessarily be? What in it's construction makes it as such, perhaps it's shielding from all the RF from the car and surroundings etc.?

hmm doesn't look like it, from Shifter ZR4™ - Beltronics USA...

"CINCINNATI MICROWAVE's exclusive "link" design allows you to connect the SHIFTER ZR4™ to select Beltronics radar detectors (RX65 Blue, RX65 Red, STi, Vector 995, Vector 965, Vector 955, Vector 940)..."

The 9500ci uses the M3 horn, same as the Sti and STi-R. This is the only Spectre invisible radar horn design that is undetectable. The 9500ix uses the M4 horn.

Thanks, I couldn't find that when I looked earlier.
