9500ix and 9500i owners

I had a 9500i when it first came out and I wasn't all that happy with it. I'm not looking to rekindle 700 threads of why. I had my opinion on the 9500i and that was it, my opinion.

It is now a year and a half later and I have been using the new 9500ix for a relatively short period of time but I have some thoughts.

1. I feel the Ramp Up has improved but I don't think anything has been as good as my old X50.

2. The double beep at low speeds is great. I like that you are alerted to a threat even at low speed.

3. The Auto Learn is the only thing I use now. I'm not 100% sure how it is unlocking threats such as a speed sign that is no longer there. I need to do more testing.

4. I am not sure Auto mode is even needed anymore with Auto Learn. I can run max sensitivity (Highway) while letting the 9500ix lock out all of the not threating alerts I deal with every day to and from work.

5. The addition of Speed cameras and Red Light cameras is nice.

As with all Escorts I wish they would make a more sturdy windshield mount so it doesn't bounce as much.

I feel the 9500ix is much more refined. I get the feeling Escort listened to some of the things we didn't like and made changes.

I want to hear from owners of both the 9500i and 9500ix to see if you agree or not.

1) Can't comment as my 9500ix is my first radar detector...no foolin

2) I like that too, SA is everything even at low speeds.

3) Love the Auto Learn, which if I'm not mistaken is default option.

4) Agreed and I may go this route myself soon...

5) Since we have no PE or RLC enforcement (yet) here in Rapid City, SD I have no need for this feature for now, but nevertheless it's a great feature for many no doubt depending on your location. I will add too that I'm pretty careful and aware when I go through intersections so I don't make it a habit of running reds

I couldn't agree more on the windshield mount. I'm keeping my eyes open for a 3rd party mount that is a bit more solid but I wonder if it could be too rigid thus shaking the unit more than it should be, thoughts? IMHO the clip itself could be a tad bit thicker to where the RD wouldn't be so loose on it, nothing a bit of tape couldn't help I suppose.

As for refinements, I'll defer back to #1 above, but from my limited experiences and from much reading here in the forums, the 9500ix seems well received by most. I'm having a great time playing around with mine and fooling with Spec mode eventually among others, good luck with yours

I haven't seen you post in a while, I’m happy to here you gave the 9500 series a try again! And you’re absolutely correct that Escort must have been listening to us. One thing that sticks out is that the mark location radius was made much more usable on the ix.

I agree, however because it can be so quiet a more active aggressive ramp up isn’t so bad IMO.

Its definitely a nice touch, I like to be notified but don’t need the blaring.

I would love to here your take on it. This feature is probably the most eluding because it’s automatic, and its tuff to know what it’s actually doing and when it’s doing it.
My guess is its pretty simple 3 of the same alert within a cretin frequency block it locks it out, and if the alert is no longer there 3 times it unlocks it.

Over all the 4-5 added features of the 9500ix over the 9500I can certainly be useful, but there not necessary for everyone. I guess that’s why they still make the 9500I.
I’m guessing they were so tired of people complaining about TrueLock they figured if they made it automatic with a couple of tweaks no one would complain anymore.

Overall I would upgrade my 9500I to an ix, but im seriously thinking of getting a CI instead.

That's exactly my thoughts. I also now run in Highway mode. I had issues with the 9500i as well.

My wife hates RD's but I have my Valentine One setup to be as muted as possible while providing the protection I need. With the 9500ix and Auto Learn my wife is enjoying the quiet ride and when it alerts the odds are it is a real threat.

Next is the CI. When I watched DJ's video a while back that looked sweet. I must say though, he shouldn't be so hard on a $400 detector as compared to a $1600 detector.

That's three Truelock doubters(nascar, thestaton and happya$$) that have now bought in. I'm so proud of you guys! Eighteen months of no reported tickets is starting to convince most everyone, I think.

Tell me about it brutha! My girl hated every RD I owned until Truelock. Now we have a hardwire kit for her(used to be mine) 9500ix on order. Whether people like Truelock or not, there is no doubt that women all over this fine country approve of this new technology.

ME? The V1 had set the sensitivity standard for so long, that was the natural comparison. I've stopped comparing them now, since the zombies have now thrown up the sensitivity "white flag". It was more a jab at the zombies than anything. The 9500ci is the "zombie killer", and man do they hate this bad boy! The V1 is awesome on the highway, but in the city, it can get totally overwhelming, especially after getting used to the 9500i/ix/ci.

Hey, I'm a long time V1 user, but I'm not a zombie. I have historically used the V1 for the open road and just watched my manners in town. Now that AZ is expanding photo enforcement, I started looking for a good in town option. I bought an X50. Not bad. Absolutely quieter in town, with pretty good range. In town my V1 picks up signals from cops that haven't been born yet. I am still reviewing the X50 as well as another v1 I just picked up. I too, will most likely use the V1 only on the hwys. Although, I am open to the STI.

^ You may be a perfect candidate for the Cheetah GPS-Mirror, linked to your V1 to provide more selective in-town alerting (particularly if you tend to tread softly - at lower speeds - around-town). Give that option a look-see, before you go the "two detectors" route.

This would be good to know I suppose since they don't have either where I live but why would you want to disable the RLC/Speed features and what would that accomplish anyhow?
