My dealings with Escort regarding warranty have been nothing but pleasant to date as well. They have covered circumstances which they did not 'have' to but opted to as a friendly gesture.

That's what I was thinking - that's silly (that you cant get it w/o laser shifters). It seems like a great radar, but only an OK shifter from what i've absorbed on these forums..

How is that possible? Is the radar signal just bouncing off of cars and buildings and being reflected back to your front-mounted receiver module?

Exactly. Radar bounces off of everything. That's how it works. The radar gun receives the signal that is reflected off of its target and measures the doppler shift.

I think this is a common misconception of V1 owners that have not owned any other good RD. The V1's very small rear antenna is almost exclusively for directional purposes and is not really necessary for radar detection. The V1, with its excellent sensitivity, would still detect radar from behind just fine without the rear antenna, but would not be able to directionalize the radar source. My 9500i, V1, 9500ci and even my recently sold SRX, all detect radar that originates from the rear of my vehicle very well.

So - based on your signature, you are running a 9500ci with its SR system and then also the LI system as well? Or did you not use the SR? If you are running both - how come? Just for additional protection - or is the LI that much better for the laser shifting?

I still dont understand why the CI can't be purchased as a radar only unit. That's just silly.... Not only do I not want to delve into cutting holes in the grille, even if I did I wouldnt necessarily want the SR shifters for it..
