Default 9500ci's ability to detect rear radar?

So, fairly new at this whole 'radar detector obsession' thing.. but trying to get there.

I have a fairly ignorant question which i dont really see the answer for anywhere. Right now i have a 9500I, windshield mount. I *assume* this makes it pretty easy for the detector to pick up radar (not lidar) signals from behind the car, through the rear window/side windows/etc. If I was go to go ta 9500CI, which only has a front mounted RADAR sensor - wouldnt I be losing the ability to pick up signals from the rear/sides or do they really reflect/bounce around that much?

Hopefully this was clear - if not please let me know and i'll try to word is a little better! Thanks in advance.

With anything other than the V1, you're only seeing "in front of" the vehicle.

Any rear detection comes from, basically, reflections of the signal that's caught by nearby structures - including (but not limited to) road-signs, buildings, other vehicles, etc.

Yeah.. I guess that's what I was kind of implying, but it just seems that I do get a lot of hits from cops approaching from behind.. so i'm wondering if the 9500CI handles it nearly as well? Anyone have any experience between the two? (9500CI vs dash/windshield mounted)?

Thanks!

Because, if you give it a bad review you get sued.. So that should get you thinking.

Both my V1 and my 9500ci detect this 35.5Ka for about 2 miles after I passed the LEO.

Dear Nazi Administration/Moderators -

Sorry, unfortunately I dont get to read the "Rules and regulations of the nazi regime" for every forum i've signed up to on the internet. While I respect the reference to the rules, the 5 day ban is the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. My question was clear that I wasn't sure about it, any good forum admin/moderator would have tactfully handled that. Clearly that's not what you guys are out for..

Thanks for the responses from the other innocent bystanders. Your help was appreciated.

Good luck with the migration. Hope your server catches on fire.

Sieg Heil - get over yourselves.

Hi oztwix,

<EDIT>

With that said, welcome to the forum!

There are lots of good people here (even the admins) who are most willing to answer all of your questions and to help you learn. And, like you said, radar detectors and this forum can become an obsession!

To answer your original question...

Radar signals really do reflect and bounce around quite a bit. Djrams80's videos show you how well the 9500ci and V1 radar detectors detect radar from behind. I have a 9500ci and can confirm that it does very well at detecting radar from behind. My 9500ci antenna is mounted in my car's front grille area about 4 inches above the front bumper. The main reason why Bel/Escort radar detector products perform so well at detecting radar from behind is because they have a years old patent for detecting the presence of a radar signal which is all but buried within the electronic noise floor. Needless to say, the V1 with its rear antenna has an obvious advantage when it comes to detecting radar from behind. Yet the new 9500ci and its STi-R brother are so darned sensitive to K and Ka band radar that they perform extremely well when it comes to detecting radar from behind under most driving conditions. The unmentionable company's unmentionable remote installed product does not use a very sensitive radar antenna. Thats all I am willing to say since I am not fond of lawsuits.

Thanks again for the help - i'm pretty sure no one will have to worry about me returning after the ban expires. I had PM's going on that I can no longer see so unfortunately I cannot get the information which I came to the forum for in the first place. I can't read my messages until the 9th, and by then too much time will have gone by.

Thanks for your pleasant response.

Ah, you can't just up and leave due to the temporary ban thing! Remember, its our duty to suck you into the fascinating world of radar detectors, convert you into a true radar detector fanatic, and then send you forth as a knowledgeable disciple!

Please forget about the temp ban. Like my ex-fiance used to say, "What is it going to matter in 100 years?" She taught me not to worry about the minor things in life. For that matter, whats the ban going to matter in just 5 days?

Anyway, just start asking questions again and fire off a few new PMs if necessary. Obviously you have lots of questions, must be considering the purchase of a product, and want some concrete answers before throwing down a hunk of cash. Heck, PM me even.

<EDIT>

I can't stand it when we lose a new forum member over the necessary rule. But it is what it is and for good reason.
