Man, I tried to install this firmware update and at 58% of the fourth update, I encountered an error. After that, my 9500ci would not power up at all.
After throwing a completely childish tantrum, I called Escort. Arron and I went through some troubleshooting steps and could not get my 9500ci to power up, with or without my laptop connected. He told me that I would probably have to send in my controller and CPU to Escort , but he would check and call me back.
Well, Arron called back and told me he might have a solution. We did more troubleshooting and got the 9500ci to first communicate with my laptop, then accept the firmware update. After that, we then worked through the related problem that the 9500ci did not want to power up. My 9500ci was finally working. Whew!
Arron was awesome and did a great job finding a solution to my unusual problem.
Now, I just have to go test my updated 9500ci.

Aaron, is absolutely my favorite Bel/Escort CS rep!
Here are some of my thoughts regarding updating a 9500ix or a 9500ci:
-- Make sure that your computer's USB drivers are the latest available. Sometimes you have to search out the Taiwan web site which actually produces the USB chip to find and then install the latest drivers.
-- If you have a desktop computer which features both on-board USB ports and if you have added an additional PCI USB 2.0 card, I highly recommend disabling the motherboard's on-board USB in BIOS and strictly use the USB 2.0 card ports for updating. Why? Because I have encountered weird problems even if the on-board and PCI card USB ports use chips made by the same manufacturer such as VIA. Sometimes the on-board USB ports are not USB 2.0 ports but instead are standard USB ports. This can cause problems (random USB communications lockups for the attached USB device) since the driver is trying to handle these standard USB ports alongside the USB 2.0 ports on a PCI card.
-- Sometimes Windows will still "see" and install USB drivers for on-board USB ports which you already have disabled in BIOS. In that case, you will have to disable the on-board USB devices in Windows in order to exclusively use a PCI USB add-in card. To do this, power off, unplug your computer, and temporarily remove your PCI USB card. Then boot up and disable the on-board USB devices in Windows. Power off and unplug your computer and reinstall the PCI USB 2.0 card. Boot up again. Windows should show, after reinstalling any drivers for the PCI USB 2.0 card, the card's USB ports and drivers plus the disabled on-board USB port and their drivers.
-- Also note that for various reasons I specifically recommend add-in PCI USB 2.0 cards which use NEC chips instead of VIA chips and disabling any on-board USB ports.
-- Laptops with on-board USB ports which use VIA USB chips should be updated with whatever the latest USB driver which you find on VIA's Taiwan web site even though the driver may not be listed as being certified by Microsoft. A lot of times VIA simply fixes any bugs as soon as they are found and doesn't go through the process of getting the driver certified by Microsoft. Using their latest non-certified USB drivers solved various problems on some of my computers with VIA chipsets.

Is there a "better" type/brand of usb cable we should be using? I'm using a MacBook Air that will be running windows through bootcamp if that helps?
Please- No Mac flaming from the gallery :-)

*sigh. apple has managed to royally screw up bootcamp with the latest version of leopard, so I'm going to have to call in the morning and do some complaining.
Dmn man! If something like that happend to me, I probably would need to change my pants faster than usually click -Esc- on my laptop!
And I'm glad to hear your KMPH bug was fixed. That's one of the major plusses of this unit, firmware updates we can install ourselves!

Tell me about it.
One time the HTPC in my bedroom was in the middle of a BIOS update when a Windows update, which had been installing automatically at the same time, decided it needed to reboot the PC. In order to get it reflashed properly I would have had to send the computer to HP and do without it for a couple weeks. I ended up replacing the motherboard instead.
Needless to say, the replacement motherboard had multiple BIOS recovery options.
Hmm, I can't notice the difference, maybe beacause drive in 100% silence now
Is it that "only two beeps under 20 MPH" behavior or what?
Can you describe what exactly has changed? I'm bemused
