Angry Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket

I was on a long distance trip today and saw several cops. My radar detector would go off periodically when I saw them coming.

However, one state trooper who was headed towards me turned around and pulled me. My detector did not alert me whatsoever. I asked the officer how he clocked me and he said radar. I accepted the ticket and went on my way. A few miles down the road I passed another cop and radar went off. I passed some grocery stores and it went off. An hour later I passed one of those stationary "This is Your Speed" signs with radar and big red LED readout on it. My radar went off.

I have POP, instant on, and all the standard features turned off at the factory turned on. I get POP alerts once or twice a week.

I called Escort when I got home and am sending the unit in for diagnostics/service to make sure it is functioning properly.

I'm honestly thinking this state trooper eyeballed me and gave me a ticket without using his radar. I was in the left lane and wasn't speeding that I know of. He gave me a nice ticket for 15 over.

Any suggestions? If it comes back from Escort with a thumbs up, can I file a complaint against this trooper? Maybe he has a record of complaints doing this. Should I just have my lawyer bring it up in court or just get me out of it? I'm really pissed off b/c I rely on my detector to tell me when I'm being clocked and it literally did NOTHING, no lights, no beeps, nothing. GPS filter was turned on, but I have never filtered that location before as it was a special trip I have not traveled before.

Any help is appreciated. I'm beginning to really despise the police. Instead of getting rapists and murderers off the streets they harass normal citizens driving 10 over the posted speed limit on a freaking HIGHWAY.

not likely 10miles...but far more than it should be! .5 mile or more at least

sorry about the ticket...but if you use TrueLock, you had it coming

BTW - juvenille comment: I'm beginning to really despise the police. Instead of getting rapists and murderers off the streets they harass normal citizens driving 10 over the posted speed limit on a freaking HIGHWAY.

Anything less than 100% reliability is not worth the risk to have a "quiet" detector.
TICKETS HAVE NOW BEEN REPORTED ON THE FORUM AS A DIRECT RESULT OF TRUELOCK! I GUESS THEY MUST BE TOO IGNORANT TO KNOW HOW TO USE THE FEATURE ALSO?

Both of these comments are irresponsible. This is a first time poster. He has no idea of what you are talking about. He came here for advice. Both of you know this has nothing to do with Truelock.

East1999, I apologize about the immature comments above. If your 9500i is working properly, which is sounds like it is, the LEO was lying to you, probably because he noticed you had a RD and wanted to get a point across to you that they don't work. LEOs hate RDs.

It could have been a quick trigger IO hit that the 9500i filtered out? I know my RX65 has missed quick triggers that my V1 caught.

Real World Example:

Driving with the RX65 I pass a LEO parked on the side of the road. My Bel remained silent as I passed.

Swapped out the RX65 for the V1:

Driving with my V1 passing the same LEO the V1 beeped very briefly as I approached. As I drove by the LEO gave a few more very brief quick trigger shots to oncoming cars.

Maybe it wasn't TrueLock but just filtering? It happens.

If it where radar the detector at a minimum would have alerted you to the ticket. If he was moving then it could not have been vascar, and since he was coming the other way he couldn't have paced you. The only way the detector would not have alerted is if he passed you, and then hit you with the rear antenna via instant on. This would have put the detector in a forward facing scenario, and if it didn't have anything to bounce he could have gotten you without a alert.

Probably time to hire a lawyer, or contact the national motorist association (NMA).

Just for curiousity what kind of car do you drive, I wonder if he profiled you? I would think he lied, I don't think he quick triggered you, kinda hard to do that and drive IMHO.

Possibilities:
- gun is out of calibration/defective
- detector is defective
- officer used quick-triggered radar (No Alert)
- officer used K-Band POP (No Alert)
- officer lied

That sux, Next time you question if he used radar, ask to see the target speed on his radar equip. What was your speed and how accurate was he with the speed he put on the ticket?
