8500 X50 Display

So i love my X50!!! It has saved me A LOT like 115 Radar Saves, 7 Laser Saves, and 15 IO Saves!! at that is like in 6 months. I think its a lot but i could be wrong.

Anyways over the past few days the display has been acting up. Like the display will just go blank. I think that it is still on just not lit up, because i will just hit the brite button like 3 times and it will come back on. Is this a setting that i have on and just don't know? Or a known issue? I've kept it in really really good shape! I only have it up when i drive, never leave it in the sun. Its always in my glove box when i am not using it. I am kinda worried i paid a lot of it and i need it i use it every day! I really don't want to send it in cause i will be without a detector for how ever long it takes to do repairs!

Sounds, from your post, as if your detector may be bouncing around a bit on its mount, and that it's hitting the "Brightness"/"Dim" button either on the headliner or whatever is above it, during typical road-use.

Alternatively, it's possible that button may be malfunctioning.

Other possibilities are certainly likely, but I'm ill-equipped, technically, to handle such troubleshooting - hopefully, MEM-TEK will see this post soon enough, and he'll weigh-in with other possibilities and possible solutions, too.

There are different brightness settings on the X50 and you may have changed them. Do a full reset, all back to factory settings, then reset to the way you like it.
But if you are saving 10,000 dollars a month and 125 saves, which is quite a number by the way, about three years of hits for me. I would think on sending it in, perhaps getting a backup if you can't be without it.

It has a setting for this, but to have it as long as you have and never encountered this before it sounds like the display or connection to the display is failing, or possibly the power cord may be loose.

However its very possible that some form of what TSi+WRX said is the case.

Sorry these "it saved me a zillion times" post get under my skin. I've own RD since they were available. Even when I was younger and more stupid it might save me once everycouple months.

RD are not 100% and with those odds of 115 save in 6 mo you will get ticked.

In real odds I'd say 1 in 20 real saves you will get a ticket.

Just because a detector spots LEO doesn't mean it's a save. Are you saying you would have received 250 tickets per year without it? In MA that would mean approx $250,000 and no license and probably jail time.

Your X50's display problem could be due to a cold solder joint for one of the three top row display pins where those pins are soldered to the tiny ciruit board attached behind the display. If your X50 is still in-warranty, then by all means let Escort fix the problem since trying to fix the problem yourself will void your X50's warranty.

If your X50 is out-of-warranty then I still would let Escort fix it. Maybe they will fix it for free since it is a latent mechanical soldering defect. Shipping your X50 fully insured via USPS to Escort should cost you all of around $12. If Escort is going to charge you an out-of-warranty service fee and if you would prefer to fix it yourself, then send me a PM for some detailed instructions which you must follow in order to prevent damaging the electronics due to static electricity.

Thanks for all the replies. So fast to haha... But yes i have had that many saves! I know the diff between just passing a cop and going 110 and getting an alert and slowing down in time to not get a ticket!

But i dunno what to say about it bouncing around. It does bounce around, I'm only using the mount that i got with the detector. But it isn't like a big deal. I have it mounted just under the blue and under the mirror.

I did do the hard reset and it hasn't done it since that. So i hope that it works better now.

But i guess that I'm looking for better ways to do this tips tricks i think that im doing pretty well but if there is anything more that you can tell me let me know!
