I'm wondering, for those who have the choice, whether interior mounting the CI /Sti-R antenna (eg visor mount) is preferable to the exterior/grill mount location? I'm worried about what happens out of warranty if the unit gets hit by a rock /road debris or through continuous exposure to rain/ salt/ freeze-thaw etc. I have been very impressed with the sensitivity of my STi-R and have experimented with both interior as well as exterior locations - I can't say I've noticed any significant difference in Ka sensitivity between the two (and this seems consistent with the GOL test). Maybe the additional height of the interior location makes up for the radar having to go through an additional layer of glass?
Anyway, whilst these units are obviously designed and intended for exterior mounting, I'm wondering what kind of lifespan can be expected with an exposed grill mount and whether people feel that interior is a good way to go (if you are able/have the choice)? I'd also value any others' experiences in terms of sensitivity between the 2 locations. Thanks!
