    Default Help with 9500ci Shifting

Hello All – I’m new to the site and to the world of detectors in general. I’m hoping to get some guidance. I just had a 9500ci installed and have been getting an awful lot of front laser shifting alerts in areas where no visible laser is in operation. Since the install I’ve been driving in urban areas and getting the shifting alert in all kinds of areas, around traffic lights, open areas, light & heavy traffic. I cannot seem to put a pattern to anything.

It’s installed in a 08 Infiniti M45 that does have laser operated cruise but it is not on when the alerts are received. I’ve tested with it on and cannot tell any difference.

I have searched the forum and learned a lot but haven't found anything specific to my issue. Any insight would be appreciated!

The Zr4 shifters are very sensitive, could be normal sunlight interference.

But, since you have the M45 with laser cruise chances are that is causing the problems. You did say you turned off the cruise and it still happens?

I am wondering the cruise function even off is still transmitting?

Post some pics of your install, maybe the position of the shifters can be adjusted to help.

If you post pics can take some of the interior as well, I am curious how it came out.

    X2.

I believe they are always on, even if cruse is off. The solution seems to be putting tape over the sensors.

Yes, cruise is off and still getting the alerts. Don't know if the cruise is transmitting even if off. I guess that would be pretty easy to test. But wouldn't the alert be constant if that were the problem?

I'll take some pics this afternoon.

    Thanks

    Hi Wildhair,

I don't know if the cruise control laser transmitters remain active when the cruise control is turned off. Yet the only other thing I can think of which can cause the shifters to false is if the shifter cables are run close to the engine's ignition wires, ignition coil. ignition module, or alternator. You might want to post a couple of extra pictures showing where the shifter and the remote antenna cables are run under the hood.

It would only alert if the laser was reflected back, not necessarily constantly.

Here are some pics of the install. Will try to get some pics of the routing of the wiring. Thanks for all the input!!

That front shifter install is kinda tough.Looking at the second picture, the drivers side shifter looks kinda tilted and angled up which would have the laser sensor housing more prone to sunlight falses.I think you may need to go back to your install shop and have them adjust your shifters again because they don't look level front to back or left to right. That may solve your problems.

The laser transmitters are positively still on even though the cruise control is not engaged. The ZR4s will not work on this car unless the laser guided cruise control system is permanently disabled.
