Default 9500ix Detector Tools v1.3 bug

Edit: Detector Tools v1.4 fixes this issue! If you change the settings via Detector Tools, the detector will still show "Marker Enables" as "Modified" even if you have all sub category's on (which is "Default", but it will now alert to RLC's, which it did not do under v1.3).

I have noticed when I change the preferences via Detector Tools 1.3 and write them to the detector, "Marker Enables" always shows as "Mod", even though "Red Light Cameras", "Speed Cameras", "Speed Traps" and "Other" are all shown as "On" (defaults). It should show as "Default" since I did not change any of them. Beyond being mildly annoying, whatever the glitch is also disabled RLC alerts!

I noticed yesterday, because after playing with detector in Detector Tools, I went for a drive and the first RLC I came to did not alert at all. I turned around and passed it again, still no alert. I then drove to another RLC and got no alert from it either (these cameras are very near my house and alerted previously).

I pulled over and checked the settings ... GPS had a signal, RLC's and everything else in "Marker Enables" was listed as on, but the display on the detector showed as "Mod". I did a hard factory reset on the unit itself, and then manually changed my settings via the unit. Now "Marker Enables" showed as "Default". Everything in "Marker Enables" showed as on, same as before, but now the RLC's alerted again.

I confirmed this behavior tonight. I changed the settings again via Detector Tools and saved to the unit, then checked the settings using the RD itself, and "Marker Enables" showed as "Mod" despite every sub category being turned on. I then did a hard factory reset again, opened detector tools and clicked "Factory Reset" and then "Change" to write them to the detector. I then checked the settings using the detector itself, and sure enough, ""Marker Enables" showed as "Mod" despite all sub category's being on ...

So it seems clicking the "Change" button in Detector Tools 1.3 causes the detector to show "Marker Enables" as "Mod" even if they are not changed from factory defaults, and disables detecting of RLC's completely.

That pins it. I have had a similar problem and hadn't taken the time to research the cause of the effect. Thanks!

You should CALL Escort and tell them your findings. I found a bug in Version 1.0 (just some text that was duplicated) and it took them a while to figure it out.

I sent two or three emails and tried the chat thing to explain it but it never got understood. When I called, I spoke with a tech who saw what I saw and he said he would turn it over to their software people, which finally got corrected.

Escort doesn't work too quickly on email, if at all and spending too much time on chat also doesn't seem to float their boat. Old fashioned telephone gets the best service - and they can't delete it or blame it on their spam filter.

I just checked mine and can confirm the same issue. Although those settings showed as being modified, when I scrolled through them, they were all on. I did a hard reset and then set my preferences manually. Do you plan on notifying Escort of this bug? I was going around fat dumb and happy thinking that everything was working right. Kind of like finding out that the brand of condoms you've been buying have holes in them. Thanks for the heads up.

I have sent Escort an email letting them know about the problem. Until they fix it I would recommend everyone only change 9500ix settings manually, not using detector tools ... who knows what else is/may be affected.

Nice find Obsidian. You know, it's not that difficult to change settings manually anyhow and frankly the only use I have and most should have for Detector Tools is for any firmware updates obviously, with RLC update being useless to me as there aren't any in my area anyhow...

I only made a short trip this morning after doing the hard reset but it appears to have wiped out my lockouts. No bid deal, it'll re-learn.

A "hard-reset" (sen-mute-brt buttons while powering up and then gps button for yes to erase) will wipe out lockouts. A "soft-reset" by just hitting the sen and brt buttons while powering up will not wipe out the lockouts but will fix the Markers Mod bug.

I've wondered about the reset procedure, does it just wipe out all of our lockouts both manual and auto or the whole database? Also, this "soft" reset, is this a one time deal or is it necessary after each use of the "Change" button in DT...

Does version V 1.4 fix this issue?
