Default i think my x50 doesn't like my car...

i had my x50 REV 6.1 or 6.2 in RED for the past 2 years. The past 2 years its been in my 1998 maxima with tinted windows, hardwired to above my RVM.

i recently bought a 2005 g35x. hardwired my x50 to the right of my RVM. and now it just acts funny. flaseing all the time to begin with.

when i walk into my garage i always open the garage door and by the time i walk to my car its fully open. start the car up and within 5-20 seconds POP alert is on for about 30 seconds, when i pull out and go down my alley it normally stops. then i turn and get past about 2-5 houses and now i get KA, full strength and POP, they switch off left and right. then the whole trip i random get 2 signals, they just switch off randomly.

now at first i thought maybe they changed things around in my area. I dont have my maxima anymore to compare. but i figured it might be my g35, it has a newer fancy gadgets in it that can be mistaken by the radar.

like i have HID, auto dim mirror, intellgent key ( kinda like a push start system), OEM navigation. So maybe that is setting it off.

Anyone have any ideas on what i can do. i reset the radar and it seems to have gotten a little better, less with the POP upon start up but its not acting the way it did in my maxima. On my maxima for the most part my drive was quiet except when i past supermarkets and get the K band, since i disable X, normally when i get hit with KA, it really is a trooper. I've almost never heard pop and lasers unless its at the toll roads. But now in my g35x i hear all these signals like 3 times in my hour drive

Switch off POP, and see what happens.

POP detection on the x50 is honestly virtually useless, anyway, and may even lead to slight overall performance degradation, not to mention the loss-in-confidence that you will experience with the detector, persistently falsing to POP.

    Get your 1998 maxima back...

    Definitely turn POP off.

Turn the voltage read out on, it's a long shot but one time my 8500 (non x50) started throwing self-cal errors after I got my car serviced. I turned the voltage reading out, and as soon as the detector turned on (loud laser alarm accompanied with LOW VOLT). Not really sure what the issue was as it's fine now, but if I hadn't turned the voltage read out on to see that the detector wasn't happy with the low voltage, I probably would of did the trade-in program (as I JUST got it serviced in May).

Also, try using the smartcord to further narrow down if it's a problem with the hardwire.

Excellent advice! I too suspect a power problem.

my voltage read out is the my default setting, its given the same amount of voltage as my maxima. i've only have the invis-a-cord because the GF has my main smartcord. i'll get it and try some things out later on....

i completely reset the thing like 5 times, disable X band for city. kept everything the same, fast start up, voltage read out. and now its acting a better but still getting random POP/ KA.

    ------

reguarding that video, i dont need to rev the car for it beep, its VERY similiar to the stop light one but it goes for a LONG time. from what i can tell, it has nothing to do with speed, rev or voltage.
i'm going to disable POP on my drive to work tonight and see how the thing will act. I'm rather mad at it and its the longest my x50 has EVER sat in my glovebox. prior to getting the g35, i have COMPLETE trust in my x50 when it comes to KA band, now not so much. same route and time for the past 2 years.

Try this: Take your X50 inside, remove the screws and take off the case bottom, and then tighten all of the Phillips head screws which you see. Don't touch anything inside the case except possibly for the metal radar horn casting if necessary in order to hold the circuit board steady (still sitting inside the top case half) while you tighten up the screws. Once done, reinstall the bottom case cover and see how your X50 performs for a few days. Hopefully the random false alerts will be gone.

Specifically, what I think might be occurring is a somewhat weak contact between the horn's ridge and the microstrip feed line on the LO board. This can occur if the horn-to-board screws become very slightly loose over time. Anyway, its worth a shot since your X50 is out of warranty.

I'll try the screw thing, on the weekend.

its been a while since i posted and the problem has not been as constant.

I take the same strip of highway everyday. its I90/94 heading East toward downtown chicago. Some nights my radar is 10 times louder then my radar, paying Ka and K band songs all day switching off. My whole 10 minute ride. On other nights smooth like its off.

I understand living in chicago there is a lot of interfernece and false signals. but I do feel something is wrong with mines. It shouldn't be acting like this. I'm going to try it with a diffrent car to elimate my car. After that I'm going to look into sending it for repair or a general update, if the price is reasonable.
