Default Fix for False laser 9500ix

read about the problem here -- probably should sticky this for future 9500ix users

    http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...ve-cruise.html

My guess was correct, the car is causing the 9500ix to give constant false positives on laser continuously.

Rather then return this unit and get something else I have come up with a rather simple fix for getting rid of the false laser alerts given off by my car and its nav unit.

get a peice of electrical tape and apply as shown

This cresent moon shape peice points straight down, it is not sloped or angeled. There is no need for that (you will never be lasered from your dashboard
) when mounting directly below the mirror, so I just covered it.

    THIS IS THE PROBLEM AREA

BEFORE (THIS IS MY GUESS OF HOW IT WORKS I AM NO EXPERT)

    AFTER

Everything is working now, NO MORE FALSE LASER SIGNLAS, GPS locks ON after 10 seconds in clouds and around houses. My guess is that somehow the false laser interferance was also responsible for that also.

dont send your unit in, just do this instead and save on shipping. I know it seems cheesy but it works.

originally I had designed what I call a "duck bill" for the unit, it was black but I didnt have to use it, electrical tape works better and you cant even see it.

Hmmm, that might mess up your detection range. I wouldn't put tape anywhere on my lens.

That's extremely doubtful this would have any affect on the laser detection, it's a small section and it points straight down. The only reason it's probably not plastic in the first place is because it was easier to make it that way. Besides if you have a nav LCD you don't have any choice. Escort should make this a design change.

Quite possibly, I certainly would NOT recommend it at all. In addition, the laser detection on these units is meager at best and all but useless anyhow. Most anyone who's buying such a windshield mounted device isn't doing so because of it's world beating Laser detection and if concerned about that, usually has a plan in place to buy a separate jammer and would just turn off the Laser on the RD in such a case as yours.

or you can mount your 9500i on your windshield that way it dont have a direct point of view to it

Mount it high (better for Radar anyhow) to the left or right of the RVM. Again, IMHO it's a bad idea to tape up your lens without knowing the implications.

    Interesting!

I think that if you're willing to accept POTENTIAL performance degradation, with LIDAR, then this is a viable route to go.
