Default To 9500i or 9500ix...That is the Question

Hey everyone. My first post here, but I am by no means a newbie to RD's. Have had one since the early 80's, and have primarily been Escort/Passport. I currently have a non X50 8500 and am considering one of the 9500 models, but which one?

I considered giving the V1 a try as it seems everyone talks about them and I have never tried it. My only drawback is all the falsing they seem to do. Sure, I know they may have excellent sensitivity and reception, but from what I have read, the higher number of falsing leaves a lot to be desired. Whenever my wife or one of the kids is with me and my Escort falses, they start fussing and either mute or unplug it so I know the V1 is out of the question.

My question for you is which one I shoud get. I live in a very rural area and only make it to a major city about once a month. My job requires me to travel to about 5 different towns a week, but none of them use redlight cameras or anything like that. Would the 9500ix really be worth the extra money or would I be better off with just the 9500i?

Also, most of the research I have been doing about these models in the forum has been older comments or posts. Have these models been improved more than original? Thanks in advance.

I had my 9500i upgraded to the 9500ix and I love it.

Ok, so there is $50 difference in price between the 2. How much did it cost to upgrade from the i to the ix? Also, is there any other difference between the 2 other than speed/traffic light camera and the autolearn?

The upgrade cost me $129 and comes with 3 years worth of database updates. Those are the two differences that I know of.

The update is only feasible for previous 9500i owners.

Don't get a V1 ... it will drive you insane after having an X50.

I say go for the 9500ix. You never know when you will be in a town with RLC's and here the fine is over $400 each after fees. If you get a 9500i, you will probably upgrade it to an ix eventually so just pay the extra $50 now.

The other difference that may or may not be important to you is the 9500i comes in red while the 9500ix only comes in blue ... so if you want red get the 9500i.

Comparing the V1 to the 995 (S7) they falses and the exact same spots. If you have a 8500 esp the older S7 platform you can easily adapt to the V1.

Ummm, no. The V1 falses much more than the X50 S7. I've used S7 8500's and X50's since 2003 except for 7 months when I used a V1 exclusively ... even with X off for some peace, the V1 falsed MUCH more K, falsed Ka (ghosts & J's), and falsed laser.

I've never had a false Ka I could confirm on the X50 and only an occasional laser false.

9500ix is better than both in regards to falses.

Thanks Obsidian. I have had multiple Escort/Passports in the past (including the 8500, 7500, and another that was the size of a cassette tape holder) and have never really had a big problem with falsing, except when they start getting very old and need to be tuned. My current 8500 still works, but for the last 3 or 4 months, it has been falsing about 4 times as much as previously, and nothing has changed with settings. It seems that the majority of the time it falses now, it shows 24.000 or 24.300 and this is no matter where I am. It will also pick up other freq's and continue to beep as the freq will change several times during the alarm.

I couldn't believe the difference in reception in the 8500 (when I first got it) vs the 7500. Hopefully, the 9500 will be even better. I can imagine how much a V1 will false and I just don't think I can tolerate it. I know Escorts have a far superior filtration system to them, and the last thing I want to do is hit mute just to shut it up everytime it alarms. I think this desensitizes us to the reason for having a RD in the first place.

I should clarify my 995 S7 was set to Highway mode.
