Default 9500ix--Have Some Questions for You!

Hey guys. My cousin is looking for a good rd, and really likes the 9500ix. However, he can only purchase it from Best Buy because he has a $400 gift card. Is he making a mistake by doing so? He thinks that not ordering it from the manufacturer is foolish, but is Best Buy a good retailer or should he avoid doing so? Maybe BB is fine, he just needs to check the MFG. date to make sure its newer?

Now to the info. He wants to know how the ramp-up and sensitivity are in general. He said hes heard some stuff about the ramp-up being bad (like the old sti), and others being good (linear like the 8500 x50). How exactly is the ramp-up? And also, how is sensitivity in general?

Also, the red light camera data base he doesnt need so is he going to have to pay for it?

    Thanks a lot guys.

The Best Buy deal is fine.
Have no problem with ramp up and the sensitivity is much better then the 8500.
Red light and speed cam are included. Just part of the package.
And the no false alerts is just fantastic.

It doesn't matter the build on the ix, besides it can be updated via the USB. And the ramp up doesn't matter much because its so quiet.

The rampup is close to the X50's and nothing like the old STi's. Maybe not quite as good, but pretty close. Just make sure that he realizes that this is a totally different animal. In auto mode, the rampup can seem poor, due to the increase and decrease in the 9500ix's sensitivity, which is based on the users speed. Alos, CJR238's point is the biggest key here, if it's not the latest firmware, he can just go online and update it. No problem.

All the 9500ix's at Best Buy are new ... they just started selling them about a month ago when I got mine.

Ramp up is a personal preference, so good or bad it's hard to say. I like the ramp up on the 9500ix. It's very sensitive to cops, not so sensitive to falses. I had a 2.4 mile Ka alert with the 9500ix, which is better than I ever confirmed with either the V1, 8500, or 8500 X50, but that could have just been a one off. Sensitivity is fine though.

No. You get 3 months free, and after that it's subscription based. If he really does not need the RLC database, just get a 9500i and save some money.

I purchased my 9500ix at best buy 2 months ago and its been working flawlessly. My advice is dont forget to buy the PRP warranty for 2 years, if anything happens to it you can just walk in to besy buy and walk out with a new one just like that.

How much does this "PRP" cost?

No need for prp imo, escort has a warantee that comes with it and they have great CS. Not sure on the ix but I know the ci has a 3 year warantee

This user partially answered my question. I'm ordering the 9500IX for Christmas and between BB and Escort is there any advantage(s) in buying from one retailer over another. Good news BTW... I am upgrading from a Cobra 9630 so that's one less Cobra on the road for you all to deal with!
