Default Benefit 9500i to ix Upgrade

So if I upgrade my 9500i to ix for $~129 what do I really get? I see this so far:

-ability to update the database inside with camera and speed trap locations from a subscription that's ~$20/year

    - will it auto learn false sites then like the 9500ix does? I would assume so right?

-will it power itself off if it is parked a while like the 9500ix? Mine's in a BMW X5 and plugged into the front lighter socket and it stays on always- this has proven a problem when you add sites as it needs a power cycle to save them and be effective with GPS again

-I guess it will still have a RED screen or will they offer a blue one?

-I understand they will pull my saved locations and insert them in the 9500ix before they return it along with the factory locations installed

What have i missed? I think they'll add 6 months of warranty and 90 days of database free right?

    What else??

3 year subscription is included in the price.

Yes it will be the same color.

Yes it will auto learn falses.

It will power itself down, but you seriously should consider getting it properly wired.

It gets moved from my car to two others so wiring it seems a pain in the neck that I don't really need- especially if it will power down automatically now.

Could you tell me what was better? (Also, I assume your reply is talking about the upgrade not "wiring it properly") right?

From what I understand, the upgrade entails replacing the entire RD motherboard, LO board and all, with a 9500ix motherboard. The display will remain the same color, but the top case will also be replaced with one that reads "9500ix". And, considering that a 3 year camera database subscription is included in the price, the total upgrade price is quite a deal since your upgraded 9500i is also thoroughly tested before being sent back to you. In short, all of the electronics except for the GPS module and display module are replaced. Its like getting a brand new 9500ix radar detector!

Thanks, that does make it attractive. Is the database just of speed cameras or does it also include speed traps (such as VASCAR locations where they time you between lines on the roadway etc)?

Also, 2 things I learned when I 'chatted' with Escort customer service:

    1. They expect it to take 5 working days, not two weeks now

    2. They tell me they will COPY the locations I have stored in my unit and put them in the upgraded unit when they do the upgrade. They also noted that even though I can back up these locations from the 9500i with Detector Tools, and I can restore them to the 9500i, I would not be able to put them into the upgraded unit so they need to do that as it apparently is a different format or incompatible data in some way. Interesting I thought. Because I have marked speed traps I have encountered and likely places for speed traps (such as cut throughs in medians that are wooded) from PA to Maine, I value keeping that data a lot!

Just because it moves to other cars is no reason to not hard wire. At least hard wire it in the primary car it's in.

The coiled cord stands out like sore thumb if you were ever to get pulled over.

I prefer it just shut off and on with the car. I never have to touch it to turn it back on or forget too turn it on. Or my wife to bother to turn it on.

It's also less visible for thieves depending on how high you mount it.

It's really not a lot of work or money to hard wire it. Some cars are a breeze (e.g. ceiling center console).

It's also more reliable to hard wire it. Cigarette lighters can wiggle loose especially in european cars. The coiled cord constantly tugging on it helps wiggle it out too.

Just speed cameras and red light cameras.

And that's a rap....MEM nailed it and left nothing for me to explain. Thanks I'm horrible at that.
